  • NYC retail report: Fifth Avenue is city’s retail powerhouse

    New York City -- A report released Wednesday by the Real Estate Board of New York found that New York City’s retail market is continuing to perform well in its traditionally strong retail corridors and primarily residential neighborhoods.

  • Stop & Shop’s new 'next evolution' grocery store built to be energy efficient

    Quincy, Mass. -- The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. will open a new format focused on expanded selection, health and wellness, and convenience on Nov. 18, in Chelmsford, Mass. The 72,000 sq. ft. “next evolution” supermarket will include such amenities an in-store nutritionist, a supervised child play area, free Wi-Fi Internet access, curbside pick-up and innovative in-store shopping tools.

  • Cabela’s rolling out PayItFast service for in-store payment processing

    Sidney, Neb. -- Cabela's and US Dataworks announced the introduction of PayItFast for accepting Cabela's Club Visa card payments in all Cabela's U.S. stores.

  • Walmart launches new mobile apps

    Bentonville, Ark. -- Walmart has launched new applications for the iPhone and iPad designed to give its customers tools to plan their weekly shopping trips, as well as a new way to access Walmart both in-store and online.

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Sam's Club announced that it is inviting customers to "try before they buy" and plan their holiday menus at the ninth annual Holiday Taste of Sam's Club event. Showcasing dozens of food and beverage items at multiple sampling booths in each of its 610 Sam's Club locations, the event takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day from Friday Nov. 18 through Sunday Nov. 20.

  • Conference Board survey finds holiday shoppers in frugal mood

    New York City -- U.S. households are expected to spend an average of $497 on gifts this holiday season, The Conference Board reported. Only 7% of consumers said they plan to spend more on holiday gifts this year, while approximately 49% plan on spending less than last year.

    The survey of holiday gift spending intentions, based on a probability-design random sample, is conducted for The Conference Board by Nielsen. It was conducted in October. 

  • Amazon shows support for proposed online sales tax bill

    SEATTLE — Amazon.com announced that it supports the federal bill introduced this morning by United States Senators Enzi, Durbin, and Alexander, that would create a constitutional framework for collecting sales tax online.

  • Rosetta launches new mobile website for Hhgregg

    Princeton, N.J. -- Digital and interactive agency Rosetta said Wednesday it has teamed with appliance and electronics retailer Hhgregg to launch a mobile e-commerce site to complement the re-designed Hhgregg.com website.

    Hhgregg said it began working with Rosetta in early 2011 to develop an e-commerce platform that would provide the same high level of customer service as is provided in-store and to enable the company to compete more effectively with national multichannel retailers.
