    BENSALEM, Pa. — Charming Shoppes has announced that Jeffrey Liss has been promoted to SVP general manager of Charming Direct, the company's direct-to-consumer business.

    Bensalem, Pa. -- Charming Shoppes announced that Jeffrey H. Liss has been promoted to senior VP - general manager of Charming Direct, the company's direct-to-consumer business.

    Liss, who previously served as senior VP and COO of Charming Direct, will have full responsibility for Charming Shoppes’ direct-to-consumer and e-commerce businesses, including the company's retail brands' related e-commerce businesses and Figi's, its food and gift business.
     

  • Sears loses CMO to financial services provider

    DALLAS — Former Sears chief marketing officer, Monica Woo, has joined Mozido, a leading global provider of low-cost, multi-channel financial services platform for mobile network operators, financial institutions, consumer packaged goods corporations and retailers, as EVP, global chief marketing and strategy officer. 

    In this capacity, Woo will be responsible for Mozido's overall brand strategy, communications, and customer experience across channels, as well as key business-building initiatives.

  • Rite Aid launches smartphone app

    New York — Rite Aid has become the latest chain to join the retail smartphone application game.

    The Camp Hill, Pa.-based retail pharmacy chain recently launched an app for smartphones that allows users to refill prescriptions by scanning their barcodes or entering the prescription number, transfer prescriptions, manage their Wellness+ loyalty card accounts, view weekly circulars and compile shopping lists, among other features.

    The app is available for major smartphone brands including the Apple iPhone and Android phones.

  • Macy's names new board member

    CINCINNATI — Paul Varga, chairman and CEO of Brown-Forman Corp., has been elected to the Macys Inc. board of directors.

  • Limited expanding footprint in California by 30%

    Columbus, Ohio -- The Limited on Friday will open a 4,300-sq.-ft. store in Westfield Galleria Mall, Roseville, Calif., one of four new locations the chain will open this year in California. The women’s apparel retailer is also completely remodeling a fifth, representing 21,000 gross sq. ft. of new retail space in the Golden State.

  • NRF names VP communications

    WASHINGTON — The National Retail Federation has appointed a new VP communications.

    Effective Apr. 9, Katie Wilson will be responsible for overseeing NRF’s industry efforts, a multitude of communication vehicles and advancing NRF advocacy priorities on issues important to the retail community, NRF said. She will assume many of the responsibilities of Ellen Davis, who was recently named NRF SVP and executive director of the NRF Foundation.
