    Las Vegas -- In a study of 75 online specialty retailers, only 17% of the companies offered dedicated mobile websites.

  • Von Maur expanding Dry Goods format

    Davenport, Iowa -- Von Maur Inc. will expand its women's specialty store concept, Dry Goods, with the opening of a 4,500-sq.-ft. location this fall at Orland Square Mall in Orland Park, Ill. The store will be the specialty store chain's third location in the Greater Chicagoland area and the seventh Dry Goods store overall.

    The new Dry Goods will feature leading brands such as Free People, Hudson, Jessica Simpson, Joe's Jeans and Silver, among others. The store's decor will reflect the chain's vintage, turn-of-the-century aesthetic.

  • CBX appoints creative director in retail environments

    New York -- CBX announced the appointment of Marco Marcellini as a creative director in the retail environments group.

    Marco, a native of Florence, Italy, brings over 12 years of experience as an architect and interior designer working on a wide range of high-end projects including retail, educational, cultural, corporate interiors, hospitality, and residential. In this new position at CBX he will be specializing in translating identities and brand strategies into 3D environments.

  • Kate Spade selects ConcretePlatform’s subscription-based cloud service

    New York -- Kate Spade New York has chosen ConcretePlatform to enhance its international and domestic trading capabilities. Offered as a subscription-based cloud service, ConcretePlatform contains a number of flexible applications – accessed via a browser - that allow brands to trade with their partners across the wholesale, franchise and wholly owned markets, as well as the vast supply network that supports today’s retail community, the company said.

  • Chico’s reduces power costs more than 60%, and operational costs by 75%, with HP POD technology

    Palo Alto, Calif. -- Women’s clothing retailer Chico’s FAS has chosen HP Performance Optimized Data Center (POD) technology as part of an HP Converged Infrastructure to increase productivity by providing employees at more than 600 stores nationwide with access to the company’s virtual private cloud.

    By creating a scalable private cloud to meet the company’s need for expansion, Chico’s has improved operational efficiencies while also increasing agility, HP said.

  • Burlington Coat Factory to open NYC flagship

    Burlington, N.J. -- Burlington Coat Factory will open a flagship in Manhattan this fall. It will be the off-price retailer’s sixth location in New York City. The 92,000-sq.-ft., three-level store will be in a building managed by Vornado Real Estate, on the south end of Union Square.

    The Union Square flagship is part of a broader plan by Burlington to open more than 20 new stores in 2012.

    To continuously delight customers, most retailers constantly alter product assortments, adjust prices or service offerings and refocus customer experiences. But how often are these actions based on meaningful consumer insights? When the phrase “consumer insight” is misused to refer to simple market research or interesting tidbits of information, then resulting business actions are often hit-or-miss.

  • Kroger highlights sustainable progress in new video

    CINCINNATI — Ahead of Earth Day, a number of retailers have been touting their sustainable efforts. The latest example is Kroger, which has released a video highlighting some of its accomplishments and showcasing some of its future goals.

    The video features both store associates and customers who speak about how much Kroger has already done--from reducing waste and plastic bag use--and what the company can do more of--from making it easier to find organic products to donating more fresh produce to charity.
