Von Maur expanding Dry Goods format

4/23/2012

Davenport, Iowa -- Von Maur Inc. will expand its women's specialty store concept, Dry Goods, with the opening of a 4,500-sq.-ft. location this fall at Orland Square Mall in Orland Park, Ill. The store will be the specialty store chain's third location in the Greater Chicagoland area and the seventh Dry Goods store overall.

The new Dry Goods will feature leading brands such as Free People, Hudson, Jessica Simpson, Joe's Jeans and Silver, among others. The store's decor will reflect the chain's vintage, turn-of-the-century aesthetic.

The Dry Goods format is being targeted for markets in which Von Maur has yet to establish a presence. The specialty chain also announced plans to open its first Minnesota location in Roseville, Minn., in May.

"The success and volume of business at our current Chicagoland locations has been tremendous, leaving us confident that our newest location in Orland Park will yield similar results," said Jim von Maur, president of Von Maur.

Von Maur opened the first Dry Goods in October 2010 in Aurora, Ill. The name and design of the specialty store were inspired by Von Maur's heritage as a dry goods store, dating back to 1872 in downtown Davenport, Iowa.

While future locations will be primarily concentrated in Midwest-based shopping centers, Von Maur's goal is to expand the concept beyond the Midwest as part of a national expansion initiative.
