  • Baskin-Robbins to add 80 units in U.K.

    Canton, Mass. -- Baskin-Robbins announced Friday a plan to nearly double its U.K. presence over the next three years, adding 80 freestanding units to the 100 stores currently operating in the region.

    The announcement comes as the ice cream chain celebrates the official opening of three new shops in London, each featuring the brand’s new international design that includes lounge-style seating, interactive LCD menu displays and upgraded wallcoverings reminiscent of waffle cones.

  • New promotions light up Yankee Candle finance, administration departments

    SOUTH DEERFIELD, Mass. — The Yankee Candle Company has announced that Gregory Hunt is resigning as EVP finance and CFO, effective as of May 15, 2012.  Hunt, who joined Yankee Candle in 2010, is leaving to join a leading New York based financial services firm.

  • City Sports to open 21st store, in Vermont

    Boston -- City Sports will open its 21st store, in Burlington, Vt., on May 6.

    The eco-conscious space—built utilizing reclaimed materials from previous stores—was designed to capture the spirit of the community. The existing ceiling was kept, and all lighting fixtures were replaced with energy-efficient bulbs.

  • We don’t need no stinking badges – WMT execs guilty!

    The California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS) this week filed a lawsuit against current and former Walmart executives stemming from the April 22 New York Times article, which chronicled the company’s alleged use of bribes to accelerate expansion in Mexico and efforts by top executives to quash an investigation when the situation was called to their attention.

  • The Loft to open in Fort Worth entertainment district

    New York -- Ann Inc. will open a 5,394-sq.-ft. Loft store in Fort Worth, Texas’s shopping, dining and entertainment district Sundance Square.

    The new store, slated to open in the fall in a vacant restaurant space, will join a lineup of Houston St. retailers that includes Jos. A. Bank, Pappagallo Classiques and Leddy’s Ranch.

    Sundance Square unveiled plans for three new buildings to open in 2013 with retail space on the ground level of the buildings.

     

  • Von Maur to debut redesigned lingerie department

    Davenport, Iowa -- Von Maur Department Store will premier its newly redesigned lingerie department at its soon-to-be-opened location at Atlanta's Perimeter Mall. The 234,000-sq.-ft. store is set to become one of the chain’s largest stores to date.

  • Despite earlier Easter, Limited, Ross, Limited deliver strong sales

    NEW YORK — Several apparel retailers, including Limited Brands, Zumiez and Ross Stores, posted better-than-expected sales in April. It was widely expected that an earlier Easter, which pushed demand into March, and cool weather would hurt sales.

    Limited Brands, parent of Victoria’s Secret, reported a 7% rise in same-store sales for April, beating estimates.

  • Harris Teeter profit edges up in Q2, four stores and 10 remodels on tap

    Charlotte, N.C. -- Harris Teeter Supermarkets reported Thursday that net income for the quarter ended April 1 edged up to $30.3 million, from $29.9 million in the year-ago period.

    Sales climbed 6.7% in the period, to $1.12 billion from $1.05 billion. Same-store sales increased 3.9%.
