  • Barneys New York and Disney teaming up for Barneys' holiday campaign

    New York -- Barneys New York and The Walt Disney Company are teaming up on Barneys’ 2012 holiday campaign at Barneys stores in a campaign called Electric Holiday.

    The multi-platform initiative will combine fashion and fantasy, merging the creativity and magic of Disney with the wit and surprise of the legendary Barneys New York annual holiday campaign.

    Ron Johnson, CEO of J.C. Penney Co., gives a sneak preview of the company’s latest wave of brand shops, which will open in nearly 700 Penney stores nationwide on Sept 1. The new shops are dedicated to three brands: Liz Claiborne, IZOD and jcp – a new exclusive brand dedicated to high-quality fashion basics.

  • Nielsen: U.S. grocery shoppers go online to save money

    Schaumburg, Ill. -- Consumers focus on savings when they log in to their digital devices to shop for groceries, according to a new study from Nielsen. The top weekly U.S. activities related to grocery shopping on a connected device, ranging from a mobile phone to  tablet, included reading online grocery circulars (62%), looking for coupons online (55%) and browsing a manufacturer’s website for a grocery category (55%).
     

  • Walmart gets jump on Target in Canada

    MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — The first of 39 former Zellers stores Walmart bought from Target in Canada celebrated its grand opening as a Walmart store earlier this month.

    According to Walmart Canada, the 69,000 sq. ft. store located in Newmarket, Ontario, will feature easy-to-navigate aisles with directional signage, and a bright interior color palette to define the store's merchandise areas along with lower shelving to improve sightlines. The store will also conain a pharmacy.

  • New Balance steps up e-commerce with Demandware

    BURLINGTON, Mass. — New Balance is engaging Demandware to power its new e-commerce sites for its New Balance, Warrior, Cobb Hill, Aravon and Dunham brands. New Balance plans to use Demandware to launch additional sites in new international markets and for other brands, including PF Flyers.

  • Fresh Market Q2 profit up 27%

    GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Fresh Market Inc. said Wednesday that its second-quarter net income surged 27%. The company also lifted its profit outlook for the year.

    For the quarter ended July 29, Fresh Market earned $13.3 million, up from $10.5 million in the same period last year.

    Revenue rose 21% to $313 million as the number of shopper purchases rose 5% and the average amount spent rose 3%. Same-store sales rose 8%.
