  • Rite Aid same-store sales climb

    Camp Hill, Pa. – Rite Aid reported a same-store sales increase of 2.1% for October 2013 as compared to the same month in the prior year. Front-end same-store sales actually decreased 0.6%, but gains of 3.4% in pharmacy same-store sales and a 1.1% jump in prescription count drove the total growth.

  • Blue Nile’s international business bolsters third quarter results

    Blue Nile, a leading online retailer of diamonds and fine jewelry, experienced its sixth consecutive quarter of double digit growth.

    Net sales increased 10.1% to $98.9 million for the third quarter, compared to $89.8 million for the year-ago quarter.

  • More ways to pay with Green Dot at Walmart

    Bank holding company Green Dot and Walmart have expanded the line of MoneyCard branded reloadable prepaid debit cards to include six new card types.

    Prior to the latest agreement, Green Dot offered three version of prepaid debit products at 4,100 Walmart stores.

  • SRS hires first VP in Tampa, Fla.

    Dallas — SRS Real Estate Partners welcomes T. Michael McNamara as first VP in the Tampa, Fla., office. A seasoned commercial real estate veteran with 23 years of experience, he will focus on tenant representation, landlord representation and land brokerage services across Tampa Bay and Central Florida.

    McNamara comes to SRS from Sperry Van Ness where he was a senior advisor specializing in the sale and leasing of retail, office and industrial properties in the Sarasota, Orlando and Tampa Ba markets.

  • Gander Mountain appoints president & COO

    Gander Mountain has promoted Mike Owens to the position of president and COO. Owens was the company’s EVP and COO since joining in 2009.

  • The Container Store makes public debut on New York Stock Exchange

    New York -- The Container Store on Friday, Nov. 1, began trading on the New York Stock Exchange, under the ticker symbol “TCS.” Expectations were high: On Thursday, the retailer set its IPO price at $18 per share, higher than the originally-expected range of $14 to $16 per share.

    The company is offering all 12.5 million shares of common stock, with an additional 1.9 million shares 30-day purchase option for the underwriters.

  • Giant-Landover appoints new president

    Ahold USA has appointed former executive for Asian retailer Dairy Farm International Gordon Reid as president of its Giant Food of Landover, Md., division.

    Reid is replacing interim president and Ahold USA EVP operations Bhavdeep Singh. Singh served in the role of interim president following the departure of Anthony Hucker, who resigned from Giant-Landover in September to become EVP and chief strategy officer for St. Louis-based Schnuck Markets.
