  • Topco Associates taps CPG veteran as VP, marketing

    Topco Associates has appointed Linda Severin as VP, marketing. Severin will report directly to Topco president and CEO Randy Skoda.

    “Linda brings a wealth of knowledge in branding and marketing to Topco that will benefit all our members,” Skoda said. “She has built and developed successful private label brands for industry leaders, and we are confident she will drive competitive advantage for our products and strong results for our members in their retail stores.”

  • Target cut Steinhafel compensation before termination

    Minneapolis – Target Corp. cut the compensation of former CEO Gregg Steinhafel to $13 million in fiscal 2013 from $20.6 million in fiscal 2012. According to a regulatory filing, Target decided to reduce Steinhafel’s total compensation after holding meetings and calls with shareholders owning 40% of total company shares and two proxy advisory firms.

    Walmart’s first quarter sales were not great, but longer term success could be driven by an interesting range of pilot programs and expanding initiatives the company shared during a recap of its results.

  • Whole Foods opens Oregon store May 21

    Austin, Texas – Whole Foods Market is thrilled opens a new location at Greenway Town Center in Tigard, Oregon, on May 21. The store will feature products from local producers, a community art installation, LED lighting, recycled building materials, a fire pit, and a three-season outdoor seating area for about 60 customers.

    Same store sales and operating profits declined at Sam’s Club during the first quarter prompting president and CEO Rosalind Brewer to call the reporting period, “one of our more difficult quarters.”

  • Micros introduces new tablet, engagement feature

    Columbia, Md. – Micros Systems Inc. is introducing two solutions designed to allow retail and hospitality staff members to perform multiple activities from one device. The Micros MTablet E-Series operates on Microsoft Windows 8.1 Embedded Industry Pro in eight- and 11-inch versions, with the 11-inch version fully compatible with the Micros MStation base, providing staff the flexibility to be mobile or use it as a workstation option with full peripheral connectivity.

    Optional sleeves for either MTablet size facilitate secure payment on the device.
