  • Sprouts sponsors racer to accelerate sales

    Sprouts Farmers Market is hoping Nascar fans will be racing to its stores after the Phoenix-based retailer signed on for a major sponsorship.

    The 200-unit retailer of fresh, natural and organic foods will be the primary sponsor of Cole Whitt’s number 35 Ford Fusion when the green flag drops at this weekend’s CampingWorld.com 500 at the Phoenix International Raceway. According to Sprouts, the 23-year-old Whitt is an Arizona native committed to living a healthy lifestyle. Sprouts also operates more than 20 stores in and around Phoenix.

  • Bon-Ton grows Q4 profit; plans new e-commerce fulfillment center

    York, Pa. – An insurance settlement from a store damaged by fire helped The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. increase net income in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2014 to $71.7 million, up 17% from net income of $61.3 million in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year.

    Sales grew 3%to $942.6 million from $914.9 million. Top-performing merchandise categories included cold weather and active apparel and home. The company continued its trend of double-digit sales growth in e-commerce in the period. Same-store sales rose 4.3%.

  • Report: Alibaba investing $200 million in Snapchat

    Hangzhou, China – Alibaba Holding Group Inc. has reportedly invested $200 million in social messaging platform Snapchat. According to Bloomberg, the investment values the Los Angeles-based company, which allows users to send text and photos that disappear in 10 seconds, at $15 billion.
       

  • Kirkland's keeps profit streak alive

    The strong sales momentum at Kirkland's during the holidays apparently held through January, as the retailer just reported a big jump in same store sales for the fourth quarter. 

    The company increased net income during the fourth quarter of fiscal 2014 26% to $15.6 million, from $12.3 million in the year-earlier period. Net sales increased 14.5% to $178.7 million, from $156.1 million. Same-store sales, including e-commerce sales, increased 8.2%.

  • CVS announces organizational changes

    Woonsocket, R.I. -- CVS Health is making a series of organizational changes to further drive enterprise alignment and fuel its growth strategy.

    The changes include:

    •The promotion of Josh Flum to executive VP, pharmacy services. In addition to overseeing retail pharmacy operations, pharmacy professional services, and payer relations, Flum will also have oversight of a new Enterprise Product Innovation and Development team, and a new Enterprise Pharmacy Growth team.

  • At Home comfortable with wage increase

    The ripple effects of Walmart’s wage action have extended to Plano, Tex., where home décor retailer At Home has upped the minimum wage ante with a more generous pay plan for hourly workers.

    At Home, the company formerly known as Garden Ridge, operates 83 stores in 22 states. Beginning in May, the company said it would pay full-time hourly employees a minimum of $10 an hour and the minimum hourly rate for part-timers will increase to $9 an hour.

  • Famous Footwear lifts Brown Shoe in Q4

    Increased sales at Famous Footwear and the divestiture of its Shoes.com website helped Brown Shoe increase profits in the fourth quarter.

    Brown Shoe Company reported that same store sales increased 4%, while profit was $16.2 million, or 37 cents a share, for the fourth quarter that ended Jan. 31, up from $6.2 million a year earlier. Adjusted earnings totaled $9 million in the quarter, or 20 cents a share, up from $6.2 million a share, or 14 cents a share, a year earlier. Net sales rose 2.6 percent in the quarter to $615.4 million.

  • GameStop launches gift card exchange

    Grapevine, Texas - GameStop customers can now sell select gift cards at any GameStop retail location, as well as online. This is part of an expanded offering launched online in 2014 through a partnership with gift card exchange platform Cardpool.
