  • 7-Eleven to open in Vietnam

    Dallas - 7-Eleven Inc. is taking its business to Vietnam.

    The company has signed a master franchise agreement with Seven System Vietnam Co. Ltd. to develop and operate 7-Eleven stores in Vietnam, with the first stores expected to open in 2017. Seven Systems plans to construct 7-Eleven stores, convert existing locations to the 7-Eleven brand supported by enhanced infrastructure, and eventually franchise operations to local businesspeople.

  • Wayfair teams up with Sherwin-Williams on DIY

    Online home furnishings retailer Wayfair is partnering with Sherwin-Williams on a digital tool that aims to help shoppers plan and execute their DIY projects.

    Wayfair.com plans to launch a Restore & Renew DIY Hub: a custom-designed online resource that features four Sherwin-Williams Diversified Brands, including Purdy, Krylon, Thompson’s WaterSeal and Minwax, with exclusive content that will help consumers bring their DIY projects to life. 

  • Facebook talks about Instagram ads

    Menlo Park, Calif. – Facebook is preparing a move from Instagram advertising to actual Instagram commerce.

    In a call with investors, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg said that the social media giant would roll out the ability to purchase items directly from Instagram ads as part of an expansion of Instagram ad formats.

  • Executive stepping down at Kroger

    Cincinnati -- The Kroger Co.’s first female corporate officer is retiring.

    The Kroger Co. announced that group VP for corporate affairs Lynn Marmer plans to retire in early 2016, after 18 years with the company.

    "Lynn has been a trusted counselor and advisor to three CEOs during a period of significant change in food retail," said Rodney McMullen, Kroger's chairman and CEO. We wish her and her family all the best in retirement."

  • H&M expanding higher-end store banner in the U.S.

    London -- Fast-fashion giant H&M doesn’t let any grass grow under its feet.

    H&M is expanding its higher-end, minimalist-styled brand, COS (short for Collection of Style). The retailer plans to open four stores in the United States in 2015, starting this fall, with two new markets on tap. COS is also expanding into Canada, with stores set to open in both Montreal and Toronto later this year.

  • GNC disappoints in Q2

    Pittsburgh – GNC Holdings Inc. missed Wall Street expectations for profit and revenue in a generally disappointing second quarter of fiscal 2015. GNC reported net income of $67.4 million, a decrease of 4% from $69.9 million for second quarter 2014.

    Cost of sales increases were a key factor in reduced net income. GNC reported consolidated revenue of $678.5 million, an increase of 0.5% as compared with $675.2 million. Revenue growth was limited by a 2.8% same-store sales drop in company-owned stores, including GNC.com.
