  • Restaurant chain to add 33 new locations in California

    Sonic Drive-In is expanding its footprint in the Golden State.

    The company signed franchise agreements to open a total of 33 new drive-ins in the state of California over the next seven years.

    The 33 drive-ins are planned for multiple markets across the state: 11 in Sacramento; 12 in the San Francisco Bay Area; three in west Los Angeles; five between Bakersfield and Stockton and two in the Palm Springs area.

  • Deadline extended for annual store design competition

    The deadline to enter the Retail Design Institute’s annual store design competition has been extended to January 15, 2016.

    The competition celebrates exceptional retail experiences across more than 20 categories from department stores and specialty shops to restaurants and pop-ups. In addition, a single "Store of the Year" will be chosen from among the winning entries.

    Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy on Monday named Richard Willis as the company's president and CEO. He will also serve as a director of the company.

  • Target names HR exec to lead stores

    Janna Potts has been named chief stores officer at Target, filling a position occupied for the past five years by Tina Tyler.

    Target elevated Potts to the role of executive VP and chief stores officer, reporting to COO John Mulligan, after she previously served as senior VP of human resources focused on stores and distribution. Potts is a Target veteran who joined the company’s former Mervyn’s division in 1989. During her 27 year career she held leadership roles in stores, operations and human resources, according to the company.

  • The Marketplace at Coastamar in West Villages development to begin in 2016

    Venice, Fla. -- Main Street Ranchlands and The Sembler Company announced the companies have formed a joint venture to develop the Marketplace at Coastamar in West Villages located in Venice, Florida. This is the first commercial opportunity in the rapidly growing master-planned community in south Sarasota County.

  • Rite Aid December sales flat at $2.2 billion

    Rite Aid last week reported a same-store sales decrease of 0.1% for the four weeks ended Dec. 26. December front-end same-store sales increased 0.8% while pharmacy same-store sales, which included an approximate 207 basis points negative impact from new generic introductions, decreased 0.6%.

    Despite the report of relatively flat sales, Rite Aid stocks were up on Dec. 31, reaching a peak of $7.89 for the day. Today, the stock is trading at $7.86, up slightly from the day's open of $7.84.
