  • Rite Aid remodels on track

    NEW YORK — Rite Aid has started the rollout of its new wellness store format, with 40 stores completed as of the end of the second quarter (Aug. 27, 2011). It expects to complete a total of some 300 wellness remodels in its current fiscal year, management said during a conference call with investors.

  • Burberry, Walgreens and Tesco among winners of Oracle World Retail Awards

    Chicago -- Burberry, Walgreens, Ralph Lauren’s Roger Farrah and Tesco were among the winners at the annual Oracle World Retail Awards, which took place on Tuesday during the annual World Retail Congress in Berlin.

    Burberry took home the Retailer of the Year Award. The luxury brand was cited for its far-sighted leadership, professionalism and a compelling offer across multiple platforms.

  • Cabela's names head marketer

    SIDNEY, Neb. — Cabela’s Inc. announced that Scott Williams will be joining the company as EVP and chief marketing and e-commerce officer, reporting to Tommy Millner, chief executive officer.

    Previously, Williams served as president of Fanatics Inc., a vertically integrated online retailer of team and league licensed sports apparel and collectibles, which he joined in 2010. While at Fanatics, Williams led business and financial results with specific emphasis on marketing, IT, business development and manufacturing.

  • 360buy.com named Pure Play Etailer of the Year at Oracle World Retail Awards

    Berlin -- 360buy.com was named the Pure Play Etailer of the Year at the Oracle World Retail Awards, which took place during the annual World Retail Congress in Berlin.

    Operated by Jing Dong Mall, China’s largest online retailer, 360buy.com provides customers with home appliances, digital devices, computers, household items, clothing and accessories, baby products, books, and food, plus 11 other large product categories, including more than 10,000 brand names and 800,000 SKUs.

  • Report: Limited to unveil plus-size division

    New York City -- The Limited will enter the women’s plus-size business, Women’s Wear Daily reported. The new offering, called eloquii by The Limited, will launch online in October, with stores to follow next year, the report said. 

    The merchandise mix will include sportswear, dresses and accessories, with sizes ranging from 14W to 24W.

    DENVER — Quiznos will open restaurants in Meijer locations in Michigan, the quick service restaurant announced Wednesday. The relationship between Quiznos and Meijer is the most recent in a series of successful partnerships and store openings in Quiznos’ non-traditional development strategy, the company announced.

  • Kohl’s celebrates opening 30 stores; remodeling 100 locations

    Menomonee Falls, Wis. -- Kohl’s Department Stores on Wednesday marked the grand opening of 30 stores across 20 states. The company announced it also is remodeling approximately 100 stores this year, an 18% increase from 2010.

  • 'Broader' challenges await new Walmart Canada head

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — In her new role as president and CEO of Walmart Canada, Shelley Broader will be tasked with addressing new competition from Target and other retailers expanding into Canada. Broader, who joined Walmart Canada in 2010 as chief merchandising officer, will assume her new role effective immediately.

    Prior to Walmart, Broader held a range of key positions with Michael's and Hannaford Bros.Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
