  • Fay Da Bakery opens at Sky View Center

    Queens, N.Y. -- Onex Real Estate Partners announced the grand opening of local bakery chain, Fay Da Bakery, at Sky View Center, Queens’ newest regional multi-level mall, located in downtown Flushing, N.Y. 

    The specialty bakery chain leased 1,650 sq. ft. of retail space on Level B of the 800,000-sq.-ft. mall, which caters to a population density of over 750,000 people living within three miles. 

  • Dollar stores offer continued competition

    Target faces increased competition from dollar stores, as their value proposition still resonates with cash-strapped consumers. Dollar General, for example reported that net income for its third quarter was $171 million, 50 cents per diluted share, compared with net income of $128 million, or diluted EPS of 37 cents, in the third of fiscal 2010. The company reported that same-store sales increased 6.3% for the quarter. 

  • Sears board approves spin-off of Orchard Supply Hardware

    New York City -- The board of Sears Holdings Corp has approved the spinoff of Sears’ Orchard Supply Hardware Stores Corp.

    Sears announced its intention to spin off the 89-store hardware store chain in June, saying both companies could better focus on their goals as separate firms.

  • True Religion opens at Cherry Hill Mall

    Cherry Hill, N.J. -- Philadelphia-based Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust said that True Religion has opened at Cherry Hill Mall, located in Cherry Hill, N.J.

    The 1,500-sq.-ft. fashion denim store is located by the Grand Court.

    BOCA RATON, Fla. — Office Depot announced that it has rewarded 25 organizations for their leadership in greener purchasing. The awards were presented during Office Depot’s greener purchasing summit and awards ceremony on Nov. 15 in Oakland, Calif. 

  • InComm launches digital content and gaming destination at Best Buy Mexico

    Atlanta -- Prepaid product and transaction services company InComm said Monday that it has teamed with Best Buy Co. to launch a digital content and gaming destination at eight Best Buy stores in Mexico.

    Best Buy has partnered with InComm for nine years in the United States and this new offering represents a global expansion of the relationship.

    The InComm prepaid destination includes digital content and gaming products such as iTunes, Play Station, Club Penguin, IMVU and Zynga.

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart announced that it has kicked off its "12 Days of Giving" campaign, awarding more than $1.5 million to nonprofits that were nominated by Facebook users. By the end of the campaign, 145 grant recipients in all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico will be honored.

  • Walmart launches '12 Days of Giving' Facebook campaign

    Bentonville, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Monday that it has kicked off its "12 Days of Giving" campaign, awarding over $1.5 million to nonprofits that were nominated by Facebook users. By the end of the campaign, 145 grant recipients in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, will be honored. Twenty-five nonprofits that have stepped up to fight hunger are receiving a total of $130,000 on the first day of giving.
