  • Rite Aid opens 'next generation' Wellness store, reports September sales

    CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid unveiled what it called its "next generation" Wellness store as the chain reported a decrease in same-store sales Thursday.

    The store, in Lemoyne, Pa., is less than a mile from the 4,639-store chain's Camp Hill, Pa., headquarters. A ribbon-cutting Thursday morning marked the store's grand opening.

  • Sam's Club offers free women's health screenings

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Membership-based retailer Sam's Club is offering free health screenings for women, the company said.

    Sam's Club said it would offer screenings worth $150, including those for thyroid-stimulating hormone, prostate-specific antigen, blood pressure, body mass index, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, blood sugar and vision. In addition, the chain will give away more than 25,000 free breast self-exam tests with the screenings. The events will take place at every Sam's Club with a pharmacy on Oct. 13.

  • JCPenney, Giggle deliver a new baby retailer experience

    NEW YORK — JCPenney has partnered with baby retailer Giggle to launch specialty shops in more than 500 JCPenney shops. 

    Branded as giggleBABY, the new baby ships will open in fall 2013 and feature nursery, gear, layette, bedding, toys, and gifts. An expanded selection of giggleBABY products will be available on JCP.com.

  • Bon-Ton to close Elder-Beerman location in Springfield, Ohio

    York, Pa. -- The Bon-Ton Stores said Wednesday it will close its Elder-Beerman store in Springfield, Ohio. The company will not renew the lease, which terminates January 31, 2013.
     
    Bon-Ton acquired the leasehold interests in the Springfield store as part of the Elder-Beerman acquisition in 2003.

     

  • Football players, Dick's join to support breast cancer awareness

    PITTSBURGH — Dick's Sporting Goods is partnering with a group of current professional football players who have had life experiences with breast cancer, as part of its campaign for National Breast Cancer Awareness month. Denver linebacker Von Miller, New England wide receiver Wes Welker and other gridiron stars will promote the "Sport Your Support" campaign and "Endless Ribbon" initiative via public relations and social media.

  • Bebe sees slowed sales in Q1; in hunt for CEO

    Brisbane, Calif. -- Fashion retailer Bebe reported Wednesday that total sales for the first quarter fell 9.4% to $105.1 million. Same-store sales dropped 8.7%, missing expectations of a more moderate 6.8% decline.

    The 250-store chain has officially launched a search for a new CEO, announcing on Wednesday it has retained Russell Reynolds Associates to lead the effort. Former CEO Gregory Scott resigned the post in January 2009, and founder Manny Mashouf has been serving in an interim capacity since that time.

    SAN FRANCISCO — Fast Retailing will open its first West Coast Uniqlo flagship store in the Union Square neighborhood of San Francisco.

  • Corner Bakery names new president to lead expansion

    Dallas -- Corner Bakery Café said Wednesday it has named Gary Price as president of the chain.
