  • Cabela’s adds two new stores to 2014 lineup

    Sidney, Neb. -- Cabela’s Inc. on Tuesday announced plans for two new stores, one in Greenville, S.C., and the other in Woodbury, Minn.

    Cabela’s expects to open the Greenville store – its first South Carolina location – in spring 2014. The 100,000-sq.-ft. store will be located in Magnolia Park, a newly redeveloped shopping center.

    Duluth, Ga. -- NCR Corp. and PayPay, an eBay subsidiary, have entered into an agreement to integrate NCR's mobile solutions for hospitality and retail with PayPal's digital payment technology.

    The combination provides restaurants and retailers an easy, powerful way to offer consumers a rich mobile and digital payment experience when buying the goods and services they want.

  • Value-retailer franchisor takes logical next step

    MINNEAPOLIS — Winmark Corporation, franchisor of four value-retail store concepts, is developing a new concept focused on reselling women's apparel and accessories.

    Winmark Corporation operates 968 franchises under the Plato's Closet, Play It Again Sports, Once Upon A Child and Music Go Round brands, all of which buy, sell, trade and consign gently used merchandise. The franchisor intends to market the new retail concept to savvy and frugal shoppers.

    New York -- Monday launched with heavily attended keynote addresses at the National Retail Federation’s 102nd BIG Show at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City.
        
    Former United Nations secretary-general Kofi Annan shared his views about the state of world politics, joined by moderator and Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren, who also is the outgoing chairman of the NRF.
        

  • Leadership changes at Barcoding, Inc.

    BALTIMORE, Md. — Barcoding, Inc., a leader in the automated data collection market, has promoted Shane Snyder to president. He succeeds Jay Steinmetz, who founded the company and remains the company’s CEO.

    As president, Snyder will direct Barcoding’s day-to-day business operations and lead expansions into traditional markets.

  • Walmart pledges to hire 100,000-plus veterans over five years

    New York -- Wal-Mart Stores is set to announce in a Tuesday address at the NRF convention in New York City that it is prepared to hire more than 100,000 veterans over the next five years.

    The pledge will come as part of U.S. CEO Bill Simon’s Tuesday keynote address at the 102nd annual BIG Show.

    The hiring pledge will begin on Memorial Day, and applies to veterans within 12 months of leaving active duty. Most of the jobs will be in Wal-Mart's stores or its Sam's club locations. Some will be in the company's distribution centers.

  • Walmart makes pledge to veterans

    NEW YORK — Walmart announced its plans to increase domestic sourcing of the products it sells and hire 100,000 honorably discharged veterans in the next five years.

    Speaking at the National Retail Federation's annual BIG Show, Walmart U.S. president and CEO Bill Simon also announced the company is helping part-time associates who want to work full-time make that transition.
