  • Walmart exec to lead food safety initiative

    Frank Yiannas, VP food safety and health at Walmart, was named vice chair elect of The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), an organization created in 2000 by The Consumer Goods Forum. Yiannas will assume the role of vice chair in February 2012 when current vice chair, Yves Rey, corporate quality general manager, at Danone becomes chairman.

  • Gap Inc. wraps up a deal with Diane von Furstenberg

    SAN FRANCISCO — Gap Inc. announced that Diane von Furstenberg will design a collection for the GapKids and babyGap brands. The collection is expected to be available for purchase to customers in March 2012 through GapKids and babyGap stores in almost 30 countries including United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Italy, France, China, Japan and Australia as well as online in 75 countries.

  • A.C. Moore announces free summer kids craft events

    BERLIN, N.J. — A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts, which operates 135 stores along the U.S. East Coast, has announced a summer-long schedule of free "Make & Take" arts and crafts activities for children ages two to 12, through Aug. 31. All A.C. Moore stores (www.acmoore.com) will offer the free activities, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., each Wednesday, through the end of the summer.

    The number of planned store closures at Talbot’s was bumped to 110 units recently when the company reported disappointing first-quarter results and indicated most of the underperforming units would close during the second half of the year.

  • Blockbuster Express kiosks arrive at Delhaize America banners

    DULUTH, Ga. — Delhaize America banners are getting the kiosk treatment.

    NCR is adding more than 800 Blockbuster Express kiosks to Delhaize America supermarkets, including Food Lion, Bottom Dollar Food, Harveys and Reid's across 11 states.

    Blockbuster Express kiosks will be located either inside or outside the stores and provide easy access to a wide selection of popular movies, starting at a promotional price of $1 per night per rental, NCR said.

  • Phillips-Van Heusen expands distribution with Ram Pacific licensing deal

    NEW YORK — Phillips-Van Heusen announced that it has entered into a licensing agreement with Ram Pacific under which Ram Pacific will market and distribute apparel and accessories under PVH’s IZOD brand in Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia. The initial term of the license agreement runs through December 2015 and provides for a renewal at PVH’s option.
