  • Aventura Mall to add three-level upscale wing

    Aventura, Fla. -- Aventura Mall, in the Miami suburb of Aventura, plans a significant expansion that will include a new three-level, 241,000-sq.-ft. retail wing and parking garage. Construction is expected to begin in 2014.

    Located between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Aventura Mall currently measures 2.7 million sq. ft.

  • Sears’ Lampert predicts retail ‘headed to where we already are’

    New York -- Sears Holdings’ CEO Eddie Lampert strongly defended his company in his annual letter to shareholders, saying not only does he believe Sears is headed in the right direction, but that “the entire retail industry is headed to where we already are.”

    New York – Billionaire investor Carl Icahn, who released an open letter criticizing the board of EBay for conflicts of interest on Feb. 24, has released a second open letter outlining what he calls six facts about questionable decisions by the current EBay board.

  • Study: Retailers move past channels with mobile strategies

    Walnut Creek, Calif. – Retailers are taking an increasingly omni-channel approach to their mobile strategies, looking to combine mobile with existing channels rather than treat it as a separate entity. According to a new study from RSR Research, “Mobile in Retail: Reality Sets In,” 49% of retail respondents said the purpose of their mobile strategy is to drive traffic to the store in 2014, compared to 33% in 2013.

  • Logistics leaders recognized by Walmart

    Walmart honored more than a dozen trucking and transportation partners this week as “Carriers of the Year,” and the list includes many of the supply chain world’s biggest companies along with some lesser known firms.

    In addition to its massive private trucking fleet, the enormity of Walmart’s business means it works with more than 400 third party carriers. Out of those the company recognized 13 companies and further singled out Charlie Crawford from UPS as carrier representative  of the year.

  • Alliance Data renews agreement with HSN

    Dallas -- Alliance Data Systems, a global provider of data-driven marketing and loyalty solutions, today announced its Retail Services business has signed a multi-year renewal agreement to continue providing both private label and co-brand credit card services for lifestyle and entertainment retailer HSN.

  • Starbucks joins Fisherman’s Wharf in Jupiter, Fla.

    Aventura, Fla. — Starbucks has signed a long-term lease at The Shops at Fisherman’s Wharf in Jupiter, Fla., according to the property’s owner, Elion Partners. Avison Young represented Starbucks in the transaction. Atlantic Retail Properties represented Elion Partners.

    The news comes a few weeks following the announcement that The Fresh Market will anchor the center.

  • Best Buy profits from cost-reduction program

    Best Buy saw revenues slip in the fourth quarter and fiscal 2013, thanks in part to declining retail traffic fueled by a shorter holiday shopping season and severe winter weather. But all was not bad news for the retailer, which was able to profit from its Renew Blue cost reduction program.

    During the fourth quarter, Best Buy reported net earnings of $311 million, a notable improvement from its $460 million net loss a year earlier. For the fiscal year, Best Buy reported net earnings of $523 million, compared to a net loss of $233 million the prior fiscal year.
