  • West Elm to open in Mill Valley, Calif.

    Brooklyn, N.Y. -- Home furnishings retailer West Elm announced that it will open a store in Mill Valley, Calif., on Nov. 7. West Elm is owned by Williams-Sonoma.

    Located in The Strawberry Village shopping center, the 10,000-sq.-ft. store will open with the brand’s diverse mix of furniture, home décor, gifts and artist collaborations. The store will also feature an assortment of local, handcrafted products sourced through Etsy.com that include jewelry, wall art, kitchen linens, coasters and candles.

  • Meijer’s all-clean diesel fleet reduces carbon footprint by nearly 60%

    Grand Rapids, Mich. -- Meijer announced that it is now operating one of the largest all-clean diesel fleets in North America. As part of its ongoing green initiatives, the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer's fleet utilized innovative technology to improve fuel efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint by nearly 60% since it first began implementing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's 2010 near-zero emissions standards three years ago.

  • Full steam ahead for Target’s 33 Canadian store openings in November

    Target Canada is on schedule to open 33 additional Canadian store locations spanning across nine provinces, including its first stores in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland.

    The retailer plans to open 31 stores Nov. 13, and the remaining two Nov. 22. Target will announce additional store openings beyond 2013 at a later date.  

  • Survey finds big ‘expertise gap’ among retail sales associates

    Salt Lake City -- Consumers value salesperson expertise above all else, but they often find such expertise lacking, according to eXperticity’s first-ever Retail Buying Experience survey. The study found a striking expertise gap among sales associates in five retail areas: outdoor, sporting goods, hunting or fishing, health and nutrition, and prestige beauty.

     When asked to rate which services consumers most desire and value from retail sales associates, the top four were:

    1. Product knowledge (73%);

  • Petco Opens first store in Mexico

    San Diego — Petco has opened its first store in Mexico and announced plans for continued expansion in Mexico and Latin America through a joint venture with Grupo Gigante of Mexico.

    The companies plan to open as many as 50 Petco stores in Mexico and Latin America by 2020.

     

  • Rakuten LinkShare reports strong third quarter fueled by mobile transactions

    Rakuten LinkShare saw strong third quarter results in its global performance marketing network. Along with double-digit growth, the affiliate network reported a significant increase in the percentage of sales transacted on mobile devices.

    The company reported an increase in same store sales in the U.S. of 22% year-over-year, and an increase in same store sales in the U.K. of 34% year-over-year.

  • Lane Bryant announces three new stores, one relocation

    New York -- Lane Bryant has announced the opening of three new stores and one relocation of an existing store.

    The specialty apparel retailer plans to open a new store in the Miracle Mile Shopping Center in Monroeville, Pa., on Oct. 25, with the grand opening running through the weekend.

    Lane Bryant also plans to open a new store at Rushmore Crossing in Rapid City, S.D. on Oct. 25, with the grand opening continuing through Sunday.

  • World’s largest Disney Store to open in Shanghai, China

    Shanghai, China -- The Walt Disney Co. announced plans to open its first store in mainland China, in Shanghai. The 53,000-sq.-ft. Disney Store, expected to open in early 2015, will be the company’s largest store to date.

    The store will be located in Shanghai's financial hub. It will feature an approximate 10,800-sq.-ft. retail space, and a Disney-themed outdoor plaza area that can be used to host outdoor events. The surrounding area has foot traffic of more than 40 million visitors a year.
