  • Amazon starts holiday promotions on Nov. 1

    Seattle –- Amazon.com will start offering daily Black Friday deals on Saturday, Nov. 1. Amazon will also start offering two Deals of the Day every day through Monday, Dec. 22.  
  • Dollar General extends tender offer to Family Dollar for a second time

    Goodlettsville, Tenn. -- Dollar General Corp extended its $80-a-share tender offer to acquire rival Family Dollar Stores Inc. from Oct. 31, 2014, to Dec. 31, 2014, unless further extended. It is the second time Dollar General has extended its offer.     About 4 million shares, or some 3.6% of Family Dollar's total share capital of about 114 million, had been validly tendered into the offer as of Oct. 30, Dollar General said in a statement.  
  • Ben & Jerry puts local spin on largest flagship to date

    San Francisco -- Ben & Jerry’s has opened its largest flagship to date, a 3,000-sq.-ft., two-story location in São Paulo, Brazil.     Designed by Tesser, a San Francisco strategic branding and design firm, the property showcases the company's social mission along with its iconic ice cream treats.   
  • Work begins on Archer Hotel in Napa Center

    Napa, Calif. -- The transformation of Napa Center, Trademark Property Co. and Zapolski Real Estate’s 275,000-sq.-ft., mixed-use redevelopment in downtown Napa, Calif., is continuing, as a new luxury hotel is in the works.   
  • Luna Grill makes Texas debut at Riverwalk Market

    Flower Mound, Texas -- UCR Dallas announced that Luna Grill opened its first Texas location in October, debuting at Riverwalk Market at the northeast corner of FM 2499 and FM 1171 in Flower Mound, Texas.

     

    The Mediterranean restaurant leased 2,200 sq. ft. with an outdoor patio. Luna Grill currently has 16 locations in California and Texas, and expects to open more in 2015. 
  • RILA, merchant groups express cybersecurity concerns

    Arlington, Va. -- The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) and a group of merchant associations have sent a letter on the state of cybersecurity in the U.S. and how the payments system works in a letter to the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU). The letter dispels what the merchant groups say are many misconceptions the credit unions have been driving regarding recent cyberattacks and the response by retailers and financial institutions. 
  • Chase: Book spending rose in Q3

    Waterbury, Conn. –- Likely spurred by back-to-school needs, consumers increased their spending on books 13% in the third quarter of 2014 compared to the same quarter the prior year. According to the quarterly Chase Freedom Lifestyle Index quarterly barometer of consumer trends based on aggregated Chase Freedom cardholder spending data, spending at craft stores (up 7%) also rose significantly in the quarter.  
  • Kohl’s optimizes item and store performance with Oracle Retail solution

    Redwood Shores, Calif. -- Kohl’s has overhauled its core merchandising, inventory, and pricing operations with the launch of a new Oracle Retail Merchandise Operations Management solution, allowing the retailer to coordinate a unified system of record for inventory to better serve multi-channel customers and to simplify its business user experience.
