  • RetailMeNot to provide digital coupons at General Growth Property malls

    Austin, Texas - RetailMeNot, Inc. has reached a strategic partnership agreement with General Growth Properties Inc. (GGP), a real estate investment trust focused exclusively on owning, managing, leasing and developing retail properties throughout the U.S. RetailMeNot will be the preferred digital coupon provider across GGP malls.

  • RadioShack store ops exec resigns

    Fort Worth, Texas – Tony Risch, executive VP of RadioShack Corp., has resigned to pursue other unspecified interests. The resignation is effective April 18, and his duties will be temporarily taken over by other executives.

    Risch joined the company in December 2012. RadioShack is currently in the process of closing 1,000 stores. He previously spent 19 years at Target Corp. No timetable has been given to hire a permanent replacement.

     

  • A Splash of Cold Water

    The recent announcement from Coldwater Creek that the women’s apparel brand will seek Chapter 11 protection and plans to start liquidating its inventory didn’t exactly come as a surprise. It has been years since the company posted a quarterly profit, and industry analysts and observers have been pointing to Coldwater’s worrying inability to compete stylistically in an increasingly competitive and youth-oriented women’s fashion market.

  • Steiner to lease Legacy Village in Lyndhurst, Ohio

    Columbus, Ohio — First Interstate Properties has named Steiner + Associates as the exclusive retail leasing agent for its 610,000-sq.-ft. mixed-use Legacy Village in Lyndhurst, Ohio.

  • Sunglass Hut launches retail kiosk concept, Shaded

    New York -- Sunglass Hut has debuted a new retail brand, Shaded, in the form of a freestanding, open-air kiosk. Targeted at Millenials, the format puts an emphasis on interactivity, with a built-it photo booth that allows for on-the-spot photo taking and photo sharing. (See photos here.)

  • Tuesday Morning names former Home Depot exec as general merchandise manager

    Dallas – Tuesday Morning Corp. has named Melissa Phillips as executive VP and general merchandise manager, effective immediately. She brings 15 years of buying and retail experience to Tuesday Morning. Since 2009, she has served as general manager for The Home Decorators Collection (HDC) at The Home Depot.
     

  • EPA honors NRF

    Washington, D.C. - The National Retail Federation (NRF) was recognized on Earth Day, April 22, by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with its 2014 SmartWay Affiliate Challenge award. The EPA recognized NRF for supporting policies and practices that reduce truck emissions and enhance freight efficiency.

    The SmartWay Affiliate Challenge is a national challenge developed by the EPA to acknowledge organizations that do an exceptional job supporting the partnership’s freight sustainability goals.

  • McDonald’s net income dips in Q1

    Oak Brook, Ill. – McDonald’s Corp. reported net income of $1.2 billion in the first quarter of fiscal 2014, a 5.5% decline from $1.27 billion in the same quarter a year earlier. Total revenues grew 1% to $6.7 billion, from $6.2 billion.
