  • New partner pops in at Nordstrom

    Seattle – Shoppers at select Nordstrom Inc. stores are seeing a new pop-up shop. Specialty eyewear retailer Warby Parker is operating pop-up shops at six Nordstrom locations around the country until Sept. 6, and also offering an e-commerce page on the Nordstrom site.

    As part of the Pop-In@Nordstrom series of themed pop-up shops, Warby-Parker will offer Nordstrom customers a curated selection of frames, as well as four exclusive pairs of sunglasses and an assortment of literary-themed specialty items such as colored pencils and watercolor markers.

  • Report: Sephora expanding omnichannel lineup with subscription service

    New York  Sephora is enhancing its omnichannel appeal by taking a page out of Birchbox’s playbook.

    The beauty giant will test a beauty subscription service, called Play! By Sephora, in Boston, Cincinnati, and Columbus, Ohio,  in September, reports Women’s Wear Daily, with additional markets to be added in 2016.

  • Breach hits Sally Beauty Q3 profit; will close 16 German stores

    Denton, Texas – Sally Beauty Holdings is feeling the impact of its data breach.

    Costs related to a data breach discovered in May 2015, as well as higher selling, general and administrative (SG&A) expenses, helped reduce profit at Sally Beauty during the third quarter of fiscal 2015. Net earnings fell 8% to $62.46 million, from $67.76 million the same period a year earlier.

  • Build-A-Bear Workshop cuts loss

    St. Louis -- Build-A-Bear Workshop retains its come-back momentum.

    By limiting growth of costs and expenses and improving sales, Build-A-Bear Workshop reduced its net loss to better-than-expected $628,000 in the second quarter of fiscal 2015 from $4.3 million the same period a year earlier.

  • Starbucks and Latin America: a perfect match

    Panama City -- Starbucks Coffee Company has entered its 15th Latin America market.

    The coffee giant — together with Premium Restaurants of America, its long-term strategic licensing partner in Central America — has opened its first store in Panama, making it Starbucks 15th market in Latin America and 67th worldwide.

  • Two grocery-anchored shopping centers acquired

    Cincinnati -- Phillips Edison Grocery Center REIT II, Inc. announced it has acquired Plano Market Street in Plano, Texas, and The West Acres Shopping Center in Fresno, California, for a collective $57.1 million, totaling more than 253,038 sq. ft.

    Plano Market Street is a 169,624 sq. ft. grocery store-anchored shopping center in Plano, Texas, just outside Dallas. The center is 94.2% leased, anchored by Market Street and retailers World of Beer, Tony & Guy, and the Little Gym.

  • Robot army to power new same-day delivery service

    New York -- The founder of the now defunct same-day delivery service Webvan is back — this time with a robot-powered would-be competitor to Amazon Prime, reports ReCode.  

    Louis Borders is developing a $99 shopping club that plans to offer same-day delivery of groceries and other merchandise from participating retailers. But it’s the back-end of the operation that is so interesting.

  • Want clothes? Alibaba has a bunch

    Hangzhou, China – The apparel selection on Alibaba Group’s Tmall.com third-party marketplace is getting a lot bigger.

    Tmall has formed strategic partnerships with more than 160 brands from 110 global apparel chains.  It will work with apparel brands in areas of new product launches, online-to-offline initiatives, data-driven operations, digital marketing campaigns and other services to enhance consumer shopping experiences.
