  • Rite Aid bolsters Wellness Ambassador program with new position

    Rite Aid has promoted Karen Staniforth, VP pharmacy for the chain's mid-Atlantic division, to group VP pharmacy initiatives and clinical services.

    In the new position, Staniforth will oversee Rite Aid's strategy around the Wellness Ambassadors, specially trained staff who work in its Wellness stores, answering customers' questions about health and wellness products and directing them to the pharmacy as needed. She will report to SVP pharmacy Dan Miller.

  • In 2023, the customer is king — really

    Change is constant, as they say, and we’ve all seen a lot of that, especially in the past few years. But as I look 10 years into the future, I think we’re actually in the early days of not just more change, but wholesale revolution, too. “Revolution” is a strong — and possibly overused — term. Why are the next 10 years different? Fundamentally, our customer has changed more in the past three years than in the past 30 and the pace of change is poised to accelerate in the coming decade.

  • Weather Trends: December 2013

    December 2013 is projected to be the fifth coldest in more than 22 years and the coldest in three years for the U.S. as a whole. Temperatures will be much colder for the eastern half of the U.S. with below-normal cold expected in the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley and Northeast. The start of the month is expected to be cold and stormy while the week after Christmas looks milder and drier in the East. A stormy pattern during the first three weeks of the month promises to also be snowy with above average snowfall across the Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, South Central states and the Northwest.

  • Retail sales lag record BF traffic

    Retailers were effective at getting a record number of Americans to visit stores and Web sites over the weekend, but persuading them to spend money was a different story, according to data released by the National Retail Federation Sunday afternoon.

  • Walmart declares early BF victory

    Even before its final round of deals kicked in at Walmart on Friday morning the retailer announced that sales had exceeded last year’s record-breaking results with 10 million transactions completed between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

  • E-commerce retailer Sugarfina makes unconventional move

    Online high-end candy retailer Sugarfina has opened its first-ever store, a 1,400-sq.-ft. boutique in Los Angeles. The brand is known for its signature turquoise Bento Boxes, a luxurious candy gift box, and such “cocktail” candies as Champagne Gummy Bears, Cuba Libre (spiced rum and coke gummies) and Peach Bellini Gummies.

  • Shoptology bolsters digital business

    Independent agency network Project: WorldWide and its shopper engagement agency, Shoptology, have named Ken Madden as head of digital at Shoptology. Madden will report directly to Shoptology CEO Charlie Anderson.

  • Family Dollar seeks new supply chain exec

    A search is underway for a senior executive to lead Family Dollar’s supply chain efforts following the departure of supply chain EVP Jeffrey Macak who resigned from the company after just two months.

    In a brief statement, Family Dollar said Macak resigned for personal reasons effective immediately. Macak joined Family Dollar in early September of this year after a 13-year run at Bed Bath & Beyond where he served as vp of global supply chain.
