    And the winner is… Oracle selects technology executive at Chile’s top department store chain for ultimate honor.

    The average American has never heard of the Falabella chain of department stores, but the company dominates its home market of Chile and is regarded as a leader in the use of technology. So much so that when Oracle held its annual Retail Excellence Awards recently, it named Falabella’s VP technology and development, Julius Odian, as its Retailer Executive of the Year.

  • Target Pfresh remodeling program nears completion

    MINNEAPOLIS — Target is in the final stages of its remodeling plan that will bring an expanded assortment of fresh food to 30 general merchandise stores in the United States. The remodels are expected to be completed by October and will span markets from Cincinnati, Ohio to Jacksonville, Fla. and Nashville, Tenn. T

  • The Fresh Market to open in New Orleans

    New Orleans -- Covington, La.-based Stirling Properties said that The Fresh Market will open a new store in New Orleans on July 25, marking the grocery retailer’s fourth store in the state.

    “We are excited to open our store in New Orleans and to expand our reach in Louisiana,” said Craig Carlock, Fresh Market president and CEO. “We look forward to introducing The Fresh Market’s concept of quality perishables, excellent customer service and a unique atmosphere to an expanded customer base.”

  • Fameco brings Plaza Square to 100% occupancy

    Woodbridge, N.J. -- Fameco Real Estate said it has leased retail space at Plaza Square in Wayne, N.J., bringing the center to full occupancy.
     
    The 104,000-sq.-ft. center, owned by Jacksonville, Fla.-based Regency Centers, is anchored by ShopRite with Bank of America, Dollar Power, Bensi Italian Restaurant and Wendy’s. Recent lease signings include Great Clips, Hand & Stone, C2 Education and GNC.
     

  • Albertsons streamlines pharmacy operations

    BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons Market is implementing the Recall InfoLink product recall management platform into its pharmacy operation to help it streamline the process of managing recalls, the grocer confirmed on Friday.

    Recall InfoLink is a patented, Web-based product recall management system designed to improve recall efficiency by providing standardized messages, automated communications, inventory tracking and reports for compliance efforts.

  • Fiber One launches kid-friendly snacks

    MINNEAPOLIS — Fiber One has introduced new snack bars for kids.

    Fiber One Chewy bars tout 110 calroies or less and 8 g or less of sugar and do not contain high-fructose corn syrup, Fiber One said. The bars are available in chocolate and strawberry PB&J varieties and are complete with a peanut butter or chocolate-flavored bottom.

  • Ahold USA appoints new EVP marketing

    CARLISLE, Pa. — Royal Ahold's American division has split its EVP marketing and merchandising position in two, the company said.

    Ahold USA announced the appointment of Erik Keptner to the newly created position of EVP marketing. The search for an EVP merchandising is ongoing, the company said. Ahold USA operates the Giant-Carlisle, Giant-Landover and Stop & Shop chains and the online grocery service Peapod.
