  • Winn-Dixie CEO to step down

    Jacksonville, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie said Friday that its CEO Peter Lynch will step down, as the supermarket chain merges with Bi-Lo LLC. Current Bi-Lo chairman Randall Onstead will replace Lynch as CEO.

    Lynch said in a letter to employees that he will remain for another 60 to 120 days to assist in the transition.

    Bi-Lo purchased Winn-Dixie for $560 million in December.
     

  • Giant Eagle opens fifth Market District store

    PITTSBURGH — Giant Eagle on Thursday unveiled its fifth Market District location in five years — and its first in Pittsburgh’s North Hills suburbs.

  • Albertsons to close four stores

    Boise, Idaho -- Albertsons LLC plans to close four underperforming stores: one in Arizona, one in Louisiana and two in Texas.

    The closings will leave Albertsons with 205 stores in the Southwest and the South.

  • Delhaize says goodbye to Bloom, cuts back on Food Lion

    BRUSSELS — Belgian supermarket operator Delhaize Group, which operates the Food Lion, Bottom Dollar Food, Harveys, Hannaford Supermarkets, Reid's and Sweetbay regional banners in the United States, said Thursday it will close 113 Food Lion stores and eliminate the Bloom banner as part of a reorganization. The Fool Lion stores slated for closure are primarily in markets in which the company has the least store density.

  • Supervalu Q3 loss widens after charge

    Minneapolis -- Supervalu Inc.'s fiscal third-quarter loss widened on larger write-down’s and weaker sales. The company reported a net loss of $750 million, including non-cash goodwill and intangible asset impairment charges of $800 million after-tax, from a loss of $202 million a year ago.

    Supervalu said same-store sales fell 2.9% in the latest quarter. Net sales fell 4% to $8.33 billion, below analysts' average forecast of $8.42 billion.

  • Tardi’s Ristorante to open at Bellcrest Shopping Plaza

    Toms River, N.J. -- Fameco Real Estate said it has signed a lease with Tardi’s Ristorante at Bellcrest Plaza, located in Toms River, N.J.

    Owned by H. Hovnanian Industries, Bellcrest Shopping Plaza is a 106,000-sq.-ft. neighborhood shopping center formerly anchored by Foodtown but still home to Planet Fitness, Burger King and Provident Bank.
     

  • JLL expands Chicagoland retail portfolio

    Atlanta -- Jones Lang LaSalle said it has been named as the exclusive management and leasing provider for Townline Square, a 216,000-sq.-ft. community center located in Mundelein, Ill., and anchored by Jewel-Osco.

    JLL’s retail portfolio in Chicagoland has grown to more than six million sq. ft. At Townline Square, Jones Lang LaSalle will manage a redevelopment of the property, which includes façade renovations, new landscaping and signage upgrades all of which are designed to increase tenant occupancy and drive sales.

  • Two new tenants commit to Plaza Square

    Wayne, N.J. -- Fameco Real Estate said that recently completed deals with Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa and C2 Education have brought Plaza Square in Wayne, N.J., to 98% occupancy.

    The 103,000-sq.-ft. center is owned by Jacksonville, Fla.-based Regency Centers and is anchored by ShopRite, Bank of America, Dollar Power, Bensi Italian Restaurant and Wendy’s.
     

  • Fresh & Easy to close 12 stores

    New York City -- Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market, the U.S. division of Tesco, plans to close 12 underperforming stores, according to the Orange County Register. The company, however, left open the door to re-opening the stores at a later date.
