  • The future of Walmart store layout and design

    Veteran Walmart store planner Jay Mitchael is a featured speaker at an upcoming event organized by Doing Business in Bentonville.

    Mitchael, vp of store layout and space productivity at Walmart, is scheduled to speak Thursday, Nov. 13 at the Doing Business in Bentonville event which runs from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. in Rogers, Ark. Among the topics the organization said he will address are changes in store design, current prototype rollout and something called the space capture project.

  • Study: Online grocery sales to near $100 billion by 2019

    Rockville, Md. -- Online grocery shopping sales will grow roughly fourfold from about $23 billion in 2014 (accounting for 3.5% of total online and offline grocery spending) to approach $100 billion by 2019 (capturing 12% of total grocery spending). Market research publisher Packaged Facts forecasts that online grocery service providers will develop models that solve logistics problems while being profitable for the operators.   
  • Blink Fitness to open N.J. store at Clifton Plaza

    Clifton, N.J. -- Blink Fitness is set to open its newest New Jersey location at Clifton Plaza in Clifton. The fitness chain will occupy 15,000-sq.-ft. of newly constructed retail space at the 80,000-sq.-ft. shopping center, which is managed and leased by Levin Management. Levin Management negotiated the long-term lease.   
  • RKF arranges 9,100-sq.-ft. True Religion lease in NYC

    New York –- Independent real estate firm RKF has arranged a 9,100-sq.-ft. lease for True Religion, a retailer of denim and denim-related sportswear, in the SoHo neighborhood of New York. Acting on behalf of the landlord, 513 Broadway LLC, RKF executive VP Ariel Schuster negotiated the transaction, offering 2,900 sq. ft. on the ground floor, plus two levels below totaling 6,200 sq. ft.   
  • Nielsen: Holiday spending to increase 1.9%

    New York –- Holiday spending among U.S. consumers is expected to rise 1.9% in 2014 compared to the prior year. According to the 2014 Nielsen Holiday Retail Sales Forecast, which surveyed more than 25,000 demographically representative American households in September, 25% of respondents had already started holiday shopping in September.
  • Report: Wal-Mart testing holiday price-matching

    Bentonville, Ark. –- Wal-Mart is reportedly testing a price-matching program it may use for the upcoming holiday season. According to the Wall Street Journal, Wal-Mart is currently piloting price-matching with local competitors in brick-and-mortar stores but may expand the program nationally and include online competitors like Amazon.com.  
  • Stiles Realty hires industry vet as senior associate

    Fort Lauderdale, Fla. -- Nicole Messer has joined the retail group of Stiles Realty as senior retail associate. In this role, Messer will focus primarily on developing third-party retail leasing and investment sales business in the Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami markets.
