  • TechBytes: CurrentC -- Two Pros and Three Cons

    CurrentC, the mobile payment service under development from a retailer consortium known as Merchant Customer Exchange, or MCX, has been getting a lot of attention in the past week. First MCX members CVS and Rite Aid disabled their NFC payment systems to block the rival ApplePay mobile payment service, and then hackers stole the emails of CurrentC users. And despite all this publicity, CurrentC is still in pilot mode.  
  • Devonshire REIT acquires a trio of shopping centers for $70 million

    Whitehouse, Ohio -- Devonshire REIT announced the acquisition of three shopping centers at a total cost of $69.75 million: Maple Hill Mall in Kalamazoo, Mich., Alpine Summit Shopping Center in Grand Rapids, Mich. and Northwest Crossings Shopping Center in Knoxville, Tenn.  
  • Kmart to stay open for 42 hours straight, starting at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears Holiding Company joined the growing list of retailers with extended shopping hours on Thanksgiving and Black Friday.   Sears and Kmart stores will open on Thanksgiving Day, with Sears opening at its earliest time ever: 6 p.m, two hours earlier than last year. Kmart will open its doors for 42 hours straight, from 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving to midnight on Black Friday.
  • Black Friday to start early at Sears

    Customers and Shop Your Way members can shop Black Friday deals at most Sears stores starting as early as 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving. Sears’ subsidiary Kmart, continuing a 23-year tradition as a destination for early-bird shopping, will open for 42 hours straight, from 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving to midnight on Black Friday.

    One of Southampton's most historic buildings, located at a highly visible corner in the village, is available for a new retail tenant, according to Newmark Grubb Knight Frank Retail, which has been named exclusive leasing agent for the building.   
  • Lozier Corp. acquires Leggett & Platt Store Fixtures Group

    Omaha, Nebraska -- Lozier Corporation, a provider of store fixtures to major retailers around the world, announced the acquisition of the Leggett & Platt Store Fixtures Group, another leading manufacturer of retail fixtures.  
  • Simon: Most holiday shoppers will visit malls

    Indianapolis -- More than eight in 10 (83%) of holiday shoppers will shop at the mall during the 2014 holiday season, and that percentage climbs to 89% of millennial shoppers age 18-33. According to the new "2014 Holiday Shopping Behavior Survey" from Simon, nearly nine in 10 (87%) respondents agree that "malls have the latest and hottest fashion and styles of the season."   
  • South Towne Center Mall and Marketplace, Sandy, Utah, acquired; renovation planned

    Sandy, Utah -- A partnership between Pacific Retail Capital Partners, Silverpeak Real Estate Partners and the merchant banking division of Goldman Sachs announced that it has acquired the 1.3 million-square-foot South Towne Center Mall and Marketplace in Sandy, Utah.
