    National food, beverage and household brands continue to lose their place in Americans’ shopping carts, according to a new survey.

    Deloitte’s annual American Pantry Study of more than 354 brands across 34 product categories found that nearly three in four (73%) of consumer packaged goods categories show an overall decline in their status as “must have” brands.

  • Major retailers remove Confederate flag merchandise

    Bentonville, Ark. – Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will no longer sell merchandise featuring the Confederate flag in its stores or online. The retailer is removing the flag, long a source of controversy due to its connections to slavery and use as a symbol by white supremacists, in the wake of a racially-motivated mass shooting at a historically black Charleston, South Carolina church.

  • Report: Alibaba will pull plug on 11Main

    Hangzhou, China – Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba Holding Group Inc. will reportedly pull the plug on its 11Main U.S. specialty e-commerce site. According to TechCrunch, Alibaba plans to fold 11Main into New York-based social shopping platform OpenSky.

  • Study: Disney, Ralph Lauren most patriotic retailers

    New York – Disney and Ralph Lauren, vertical brands with a strong retail presence, are the highest-ranked retailers in a new Brand Keys survey of what brands U.S. consumers consider the most patriotic. To determine the rankings, Brand Keys drilled down into consumer response to 230 brands to see which were most associated with the value of patriotism.

    Following is a list of the retailers who made the list of top 50 most patriotic brands, with their emotional engagement strength for patriotism:

  • Marketing executive joins Nordstrom board

    Seattle - Nordstrom Inc. has appointed Tanya Domier, CEO of Advantage Sales & Marketing LLC (ASM) to the company's board of directors. Her addition brings the total number of directors to 14 and the number of independent directors to 11.

  • Mid-America Real Estate handles sale of Chicago-area center

    Chicago - Mid-America Real Estate Corp.’s Investment Sales team recently brokered the sale of Randhurst Village in the Chicago suburb of Mount Prospect. Tarrytown, New York-based DLC Management Corp. purchased the 1,009,937-sq.-ft. regional power and lifestyle center.

    Randhurst Village national tenants include Costco, Home Depot, Jewel-Osco, AMC Theaters, Carson Pirie Scott, Bed Bath & Beyond, Sports Authority, TJ Maxx, Old Navy, PetSmart and World Market.
