  • Ex-Walgreens exec to lead Fred's store operations

    Fred’s Super Dollar has turned to an operational executive from Walgreens to take over as executive VP of store operations.

    red's announced that John Foley has been appointed to the new role. Mike Holligan, who formerly served in this capacity, will move to the open position of regional VP store operations.

  • Ross Dress for Less opens two Texas stores Oct. 10

    Ross Dress for Less will open two new stores in Texas on Oct. 10. A 28,000-sq.-ft. North El Paso store is located in Sunland Park Mall, and a 25,000-sq-ft. North Tarrant store is located in Presidio Crossing.

    These openings are part of the retailer’s 2015 expansion program, totaling approximately 70 new locations during the year.

  • Study: Out-of-stocks — in store and online — a growing problem

    Consumers are experiencing frequent out-of-stocks, and retailers will be out of luck if they don’t do something about it.

    According to a new survey from GT Nexus and YouGov, 75% of U.S. adults have suffered from an unavailable product in-store in the last 12 months.

  • Walmart Canada makes online shopping easier

    Walmart Canada is looking to make online shopping as convenient as possible by partnering with 7-Eleven Canada Inc. to expand Walmart Canada’s Grab & Go locker network in six 7-Eleven stores in the greater Toronto area.

    The service offers customers using Walmart.ca a free shipping option where they can pick up their order, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at no cost. This partnership expands on Walmart Canada’s current Grab & Go Locker service, which offers free shipping to 45 Grab & Go lockers in the GTA.

  • J.Crew Mercantile to open first-to-market store in Charlotte, N.C.

    Charlotte, N.C. -- EDENS announced that J.Crew Mercantile will be joining Park Road Shopping Center located in Charlotte, North Carolina. This location will be the first in the Charlotte market and is expected to open in early 2016.

    J.Crew launched J.Crew Mercantile earlier this year, featuring a collection of value-driven merchandise with the brand's classic signature style.

  • Amazon.com extends its lead in e-commerce wars

    Amazon.com is the No. 1 website for online shoppers in the United States, according to a new survey.

    A Survata study commissioned by BloomReach reports that in a survey of 2,000 U.S. consumers, 44% bypass the entire Internet and go directly to Amazon.com first to search for products, compared to 34% who use top search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo!.

    Target is showing off an updated look at its redone store in Minnetonka, Minnesota.

    The remodeled SuperTarget is serving as a testing ground such overall store updates as bolder, more playful signage, and new displays and for new concepts in the grocery area.

    The chain is also putting the spotlight on its “Made to Matter — Handpicked by Target” collection of healthy-living brands, with more prominent signs on the ends of aisles.

  • Brixmor names Mark Salma new VP of redevelopment

    New York -- Brixmor Property Group announced commercial real estate professional Mark Salma has joined the company as VP of redevelopment. In his role, Salma will focus on Brixmor’s anchor space repositioning projects in the North region with the goal of driving higher sales, traffic and small shop leasing at the property level.
