  • Interbrand report: Walmart most valuable retail brand in the world

    Dayton, Ohio – Walmart is the most valuable retail brand in North America, with a brand value estimated at $131.8 billion, according to Interbrand's "Best Retail Brands" report. The retail powerhouse maintains its number one spot and, even with a 6% decline in brand value, it retains an enormous margin over its closest competitor Target, whose brand value is put at $27.1 billion, an 8% increase over 2013.

  • ECRM: Retail circular advertising trends, March 2014

    ECRM compared retail circular advertising in March 2013 versus March 2014 and noted trends occurring across top retail chains. H.E.B. and Publix topped the charts in circular page change, with increases of 27.8% and 41.2%, respectively. The massive increase at Publix was attributable to the release of an additional circular this March (five versus four in 2013), while H.E.B. simply ran more pages in each of its five March circulars (eight to 12 pages each this year, as opposed to six to eight last year).

  • Euclid: March retail performance lags year-over-year

    Santa Barbara, Calif. – Shopper activity rebounded in March 2014 from the prior month, but traffic and engagement lagged compared to March 2013. In-store retail analytics provider Euclid, released its monthly retail benchmarks report to analyze shopper activity and behavior during the month of March, measuring data from tens of millions of domestic shopping sessions.

  • Kohl’s Plaza in Holmdel, N.J., signs two new tenants

    Purchase, N.Y. National Realty & Development Corp. has announced that Flynn & O’Hara Uniforms and Advantage Health have inked leases in the 184,575-sq.-ft. Kohl’s Plaza in Holmdel, N.J.  

    The center is located at the intersections of Highway 35 and Union Avenue.

  • Meijer sets sights on expanding vision centers

    Meijer has selected U.S. Vision as its exclusive vision center in its stores moving forward in an effort to enhance its retail healthcare services across the Midwest.

    U.S. Vision, a separately owned and operated company based in Glendora, N.J., is currently a tenant in 50 Meijer stores in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio, and has plans to open 19 more vision centers in Meijer stores this year. All of its vision centers will be renamed "Meijer Optical" by the end of the month.

  • Survey: iPad shoppers reading more digital catalogs

    Los Altos, Calif. -- Shoppers using the Catalog Spreee iPad app read 60% more catalogs and viewed 39% more catalog pages when compared year-over-year (first quarter 2014, compared to first quarter 2013). In addition, Catalog Spree’s new quarterly iPad Shopping Trends Report indicates half of all shoppers visited a retailer's website directly from the app to view further product details.

  • Baybrook Mall’s Texas-scale expansion

    Friendswood, Texas — The 1.2-million-sq.-ft. Baybrook Mall in Houston is getting another 550,000 sq. ft. The mall owner, General Growth Properties, and the landowner, a CDC Houston-managed entity, have formed a joint venture to carry out he project. Work will begin in early May and completed by the 2015 holiday season.

  • Maybelline has a new face

    Maybelline New York has chosen model Marloes Horst to be the new face of the brand. Horst joins a roster of spokeswomen, including Christy Turlington and Emily DiDonato.

    "Marloes embodies the Maybelline New York woman with her passion for makeup and her New York City energy and ambition," says Jerome Bruhat, global brand president of Maybelline New York.
