  • Disappointing Q2 for Lowe’s; to boost store employee hours

    It was another disappointing quarter for Lowe’s Cos., which on Wednesday reported lower-than-expected adjusted earnings and revenue and gave notice of slower growth in profit margin for the second half.    The home improvement company reported that its revenue rose 6.8% to $19.5 billion for the quarter ended Aug. 4, which was short of estimates. Same-store sales rose 4.5%, exceeding Street forecasts.   
  • Home Depot sets new records in Q2; raises forecast

    The spring selling season was a busy one for the nation's largest home improvement retailer as Americans continue to spend money on their homes — both new and existing ones.   A pair of home improvement records were broken in Home Depot's second quarter as the Atlanta-based retail giant reported the highest quarterly revenue in its history. The retailer also set a new high for net earnings.  
  • Analyst: Home Depot's Q2 performance ‘very impressive’

    After a solid first quarter, Home Depot has posted an even stronger set of second quarter figures. Total sales rose by 6.2% with underlying comparables up by 6.3% overall and by 6.6% in North America. Given the long run of big uplifts in same-store numbers, this is a very impressive performance.  
  • Westlake Ace Hardware promotes two execs

    Westlake Ace Hardware has announced two executive promotions.   The company promoted current COO Joe Jeffries to president and COO, continuing to support CEO Tom Knox. In addition, Andrew Schmitt will be promoted to the position of VP of operations for Westlake Ace Hardware. Schmitt currently holds the position of director of retail operations – Western Division, for Ace Hardware Corporation.

    Home improvement start-up is dedicated to healthy, sustainable homes

    A start-up home improvement retailer with a green conscience has expanded out of its Austin, Texas, home with a first-of-its-kind store that’s generating lots of buzz.

    TreeHouse has opened the nation’s first home improvement “energy positive” (meaning it will generate more energy than it uses) store, at The Hill, a shopping center in Dallas. It’s the start-up retailer’s second location — but not for long. An additional store, planned for the Plano, Texas, area, is due to open this fall.

  • Update on True Value: Reports and rumors

    Since reports began to swirl around a possible sale of True Value Company -- or at least the consideration of such a move – the Chicago-based co-op’s CEO has downplayed the story as “rumor.”   But that hasn’t stopped rival co-ops from weighing in with their own statements.   
  • America's favorite home improvement retailer is...

    A smaller-format, neighborhood-oriented retailer beat out big-box competitors to rank as the nation's favorite home improvement retailer in a just-released study.    Ace Hardware, known for its neighborly service and an intense focus on the customer experience, earned the top spot, with a composite loyalty score of 63%, in a study by Market Force Information.
