  • The hits keep coming for Macy’s

    NEW YORK — Macy’s chairman, president and CEO is walking on air these days as the nation’s leading department store chain continues to deliver impressive results amid a recessionary economy that has other operators floundering for sales.

  • Macy’s Q2 profit surges 64%, raises yearly outlook

    Cincinnati -- Macy's reported a whopping 63.9% increase in its second-quarter profit, beating Wall Street estimates. The department store chain is also raising its full-year profit outlook.

    Chairman and CEO Terry J. Lundgren described the quarter as "the most successful second quarter and spring season in more than a decade," adding that it came on top of an impressive first half performance last year.

  • Walmart brings Vudu to iPad

    SANTA CLARA, Calif. and BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart announced that its video-on-demand service Vudu is now available for the iPad. 

    iPad users can go to Vudu.com and browse through Vudu's entertainment content library, which includes more than 20,000 blockbusters, Hollywood classics, independent films and TV episodes, then rent or purchase and watch them instantly. For one touch access to Vudu, customers can add a Vudu icon to their iPad desktops by clicking the "Add to Home Screen" button when on Vudu.com.  

  • Taubman to acquire Chinese retail property consultancy for $24 million

    Bloomfield Hills, Mich. -- Shopping center owner Taubman Centers reported Monday that its Taubman Asia division will acquire 90% controlling interest in TCBL Consulting Limited, a Beijing-based retail real estate consultancy with seven offices in mainland China.

  • Report: July card spending slowed overall, but general merchandise jumped sharply

    Atlanta -- A report released Tuesday by First Data Corp., which tracks same-store consumer spending by credit, signature debit, PIN debit, EBT cards and checks at U.S. merchant locations, found that card spend growth slowed significantly in July. However, dollar volume growth at general merchandise stores, including value retail, rose 10.3%, the largest increase in 10 months, as value retailers increased merchant promotional activity and discounting to attract consumers.

  • Online retail sales continue to soar

    RESTON, Va. — Online U.S. retail spending in second quarter 2011 reached $37.5 billion for the quarter, up 14% versus year ago, comScore reported Monday. This growth rate represented the seventh consecutive quarter of positive year-over-year growth and third consecutive quarter of double-digit growth rates.

    Architectural firm GreenbergFarrow is designing 11 Broadway, a 161,570-sq.-ft., mixed-use property now under construction at Kent Avenue and Broadway in Brooklyn's Williamsburg section.

    11 Broadway is a mixed-income building that includes both residential and commercial spaces. It was developed by L+M Development Partners, Inc. and continues the company’s work in providing high-quality affordable housing to emerging communities in New York City.

  • New CEO named at Ashley Stewart

    SECAUCUS, N.J. — Ashley Stewart, manufacturer of plus size apparel, announced that its board of directors has appointed Celia Clancy as president and CEO.
