  • Economy no issue for Nordstrom

    SEATTLE — In another sign that the U.S. economy is affecting lower-income families more than those in higher earning brackets, luxury retailer Nordstrom reported a same-store sales increase of 7.3% for its second quarter and net sales of $2.72 billion, an increase of 12.4% compared with net sales of $2.42 billion for the same period last year.

  • Body Shop parent posts 128% profit growth in Q2

    Jacksonville, Fla. -- Body Central Corp., operator of the Body Central and Body Shop retail chains, reported Friday that net income for the second quarter was $5.3 million, compared with $2.3 million in the year-ago period.

    Net revenues increased 22.1% to $74.7 million, compared with $61.2 million for second quarter 2010. Same-store sales increased 14.7%.
     

  • Kmart goes back-to-school with second original Web series

    NEW YORK — Kmart has teamed up with Alloy Media + Marketing for a second Web series promoting Kmart for back-to-school. The Web series, "First Day 2: First Dance (www.facebook.com/FDtheseries and www.kmart.com/firstdance) is scheduled to premiere on Sept. 9 and is the sequal to the company's original Web series, "First Day."

  • Great American Group to handle Pierre Deux disposition

    Woodland Hills, Calif. -- Great American Group said Thursday it has been retained to manage the going-out-of-business sale of all Pierre Deux stores, a French furnishing retailer that operated across 13 states.

    Pierre Deux ceased business operations and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection on June 23.

    “The trustee has charged us with selling the company’s inventory in all of the stores,” said Scott Carpenter, executive VP and the head of the Retail Services Division for Great American Group.

  • Report: Total U.S. retail sales for July up 8.7% year-over-year

    Purchase, N.Y. -- A report released Thursday by MasterCard Advisors said that total retail sales in July sustained momentum despite inconsistencies in other areas of the economy.

    According to MasterCard SpendingPulse, which tracks national retail and service sales, excluding auto sales retail sales in July 2011 grew by 8.7% year-over-year. 

    Retail sales are on par with the average growth of the previous three months.

  • Retail revolution in NWA continues

    Outdoor retailer Cabela’s has announced plans to open one of its signature stores in Rogers, Ark., next summer, continuing an influx of retail development that has steadily elevated the region’s shopping options.

    A decade ago, the biggest decision facing shoppers who lived in Benton County was which Walmart to shop at. Either that or drive to Fayetteville where an aging mall featured Dillard’s and JCPenney as anchor tenants. Other folks made the two-hour trek to Tulsa, Okla., which boasted more choices, but hardly qualified as a shopping Mecca.

  • S&S boosts sales using IBM software in the cloud

    Armonk, N.Y. -- IBM announced that S&S Worldwide grew recommendation sales 75% in just three months with IBM Smarter Commerce software in the cloud.  S&S is a national distributor of sporting goods products for recreation, health care, and education professionals and is using IBM software to drive personalized product recommendation sales via its Web sites.

  • Finish Line releases mobile app for Apple and Android

    Indianapolis -- Shoe retailer Finish Line said Thursday it has released an e-commerce enabled app for Apple and Android that provides geo-targeted store location and real-time inventory functions.

    Based on the location of the user, the free app provides detailed store location information including address, phone number and driving directions. Once a store is selected, users have real-time visibility to the specific inventory of that store, effectively giving them remote access to view what’s on the sales floor and in the back room.
