  • Sears adds law firm exec Cesar Alvarez to board

    Sears Holdings has elected law firm executive Cesar Alvarez to its board of directors.

    Alvarez is co-chairman of the international law firm Greenburg Traurig, which he joined in 1973. Before his appointment as chairman, he served as executive chairman for more than three years and as its CEO for 13 years, starting in 1997.

  • Edwards Realty acquires North & Harlem Plaza

    Oak Park, Ill. — Edwards Realty Company has acquired the North & Harlem Plaza in Oak Park, Ill., for $4.7 million, according to Mid-America Real Estate, which represented the seller, Hudson Advisors LLC, in the transaction.

    The 23,320-sq.-ft. center features Dunkin’ Donuts, The UPS Store, Check‘n Go, American Mattress and Batteries Plus.

  • Walgreens a destination for Christmas procrastinators

    Truly last minute shoppers will be able to visit the corner of happy and healthy this Christmas Eve and Christmas Day where Walgreens said most of its nearly 8,200 stores will be open.

    The company, which features “at the corner of happy & healthy” as its advertising tag line, said most stores will be open until midnight on Christmas Eve and its roughly 1,600 24-hour stores would stay open around the clock. On Christmas Day, most of the company’s non-24-hour stores will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

  • Nordstrom in partnership with 3-D footwear imaging company Shoefitr

    Seattle -- Shoefitr, which provides improved fit and sizing information for customers buying shoes online, has partnered with Nordstrom to help customers shopping on Nordstrom.com find the right fit. As part of the partnership, Nordstrom has also made an investment in Shoefitr.

    The capability is now live on Nordstrom.com and uses Shoefitr's 3-D imaging software to provide size and fit recommendations on some of the company's most popular shoe styles that the customer is interested in buying.

  • Report: Whole Foods sees potential for 1,200 U.S. stores

    New York -- Whole Foods Market sees the potential to expand to 1,200 stores throughout the United States, which is nearly three times the number of locations it currently operates worldwide, the company’s co-chief executives co-CEOs John Mackey and Walter Robb said in an interview on CNBC on Tuesday.

  • Survey: 80% of retailers to end standard shipping deadlines before Dec. 20

    Washington, D.C. -- Over 80% (84.2%) of retailers say their standard shipping deadline for guaranteed Christmas delivery will expire prior to Friday, Dec. 20, according to Shop.org’s eHoliday survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics. Free standard shipping offers will follow suit, as nearly three-quarters (74.2%) of retailers who already have or will offer a free standard shipping promotion say their promotion will expire on or before Dec. 20. (Shop.org is a division of the National Retail Federation.)

  • Target.com experiences digital growth

    Minneapolis – Target says that online traffic continues to grow at double-digit rates, with mobile sales growing more than 100% for the holiday period. Target.com experienced two of the strongest days of sales in its history on Thanksgiving Day and Cyber Monday.

    In addition, Target was recently ranked as the most-browsed retailer on mobile over the past six months, according to a new report from Mobiquity.
