  • Study: Majority of Americans negatively impacted by dirty stores

    Cincinnati -- A survey released Thursday by Cintas Corp. found that 99% of U.S. adults say poor cleanliness negatively impacts their perception of a retail store.

    In the telephone survey conducted by Harris Interactive among more than 1,000 U.S. adults ages 18 and older, respondents said that dirty restrooms and unpleasant odors are more annoying than poor customer service.

  • Inland buys nine Dollar General stores

    Oak Brook, Ill. -- Inland Real Estate Acquisitions said Thursday it has purchased nine Dollar General stores in Alabama and Georgia for $8.5 million.

    According to a report by the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the stores were built in 2010 and all leased to Dollar General Corp. through 2025 with multiple renewal options.

    The stores range in size from approximately 9,000 sq. ft. to 10,600 sq. ft.

  • TJX HomeGoods to open on Michigan Avenue

    Chicago -- Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.-based Mid-America Real Estate Group said Thursday that TJX's HomeGoods has signed a lease for 25,503 sq. ft. of space at 600 N. Michigan Avenue.

    The site is the largest single-footprint space available in the district.

  • Saks Off 5th to open in Mississippi

    New York City -- Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th announced that it plans to open a store at the Tuscany Place Designer Outlets, a new, upscale pedestrian-friendly lifestyle outlet development in Madison, Miss.

    The center and the Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th store are expected to open in the spring of 2012.

    "We look forward to opening our first Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th store in Mississippi where the temperate climate allows for year round shopping," noted Robert Wallstrom, president of Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th.

  • Dollar Tree doubles size in Temple Terrace for Deal$ concept

    Tampa, Fla. -- RMC Property Group said that Dollar Tree has signed a lease to expand and relocate its store within the Temple Terrace Shopping Center, located in Tampa, Fla.

    Dollar Tree will relocate to the vacant former Save-A-Lot unit, increasing the size of its store from 7,992 sq. ft. to 14,425 sq. ft.

    The new store will open under the chain’s Deal$ concept, which sells some items for more than $1, offering merchandise that Dollar Tree does not sell under the $1 restricted price of its primary stores.

  • A modest upswing in domestic expansion

    An announcement last week that Target plans to open 21 stores in the coming fiscal year was interesting on a number of levels.

    For starters, the disclosure was rather uncharacteristic for a company that in years past would publicly release its stores openings a week or two in advance of the actual openings. In this case, the company shared its full list of openings for the entire year two weeks before its new fiscal year even begins.

  • J. Crew potential settlement could extend bidding period

    New York City -- A Tuesday report by Bloomberg said that J. Crew Group is close to settling a shareholder lawsuit over its proposed $3 billion takeover by private-equity firms TPG Capital and Leonard Green & Partners LP.

    Citing two unnamed sources, the report said that as part of the settlement, J. Crew would extend the period to solicit competing offers until Feb. 15 and add provisions that make it easier to accept a rival bid.
