  • T.J. Maxx to open at Ridge Hill

    Yonkers, N.Y. -- Aries Deitch & Endelson said that a lease was recently signed by TJX Cos. for a 32,000-sq.-ft. T.J. Maxx store slated to open this spring at Westchester County’s Ridge Hill, the New York metropolitan area’s largest mixed-use outdoor shopping center. 

    Located in Yonkers, the lifestyle center, which is owned by Forest City Ratner Cos., spans more than 81.4 acres and includes 1.3 million sq. ft.

  • Walmex affirms sustainability commitment

    Wal-Mart Stores' Mexican subsidiary, Walmex, is now part of the Mexican Stock Exchange's newly created Sustainable Index, the company reported. 

  • NRF survey: Consumers still have more than half of their shopping to do

    Washington, D.C. -- The Consumer Intentions and Actions survey released Wednesday by the National Retail Federation and conducted by BIGresearch found that, as of the second week in December, the average person has completed 46.5% of their holiday shopping.

    Last year at this time, the average shopper had completed 49.5% of their shopping.

  • Wal-Mart spent $1.49 million on lobbying in Q3

    New York City -- Wal-Mart Stores spent $1.49 million on lobbying in the third quarter on a wide range of issues including food safety, nutritional labeling and corporate tax reform, according to a recent disclosure report.

    The total is the same as the $1.49 million the discounter spent in second quarter 2011.
     

  • Call for Entries: Retail Store of the Year Design Competition

    New York City -- Chain Store Age invites design firms, architects, retailers and suppliers to submit entries for its 30th annual Retail Store of the Year Design Competition. Eligible projects are those completed between November 2010 and December 2, 2011. Deadline for submission is December 20, 2011. Extensions are available.

    Twenty-one competition categories are featured, ranging from supermarkets and discount/mass merchants to specialty stores and pop-up stores.

  • Retail sales edge up 0.2% in November, below forecasts

    New York City -- Retail sales rose 0.2% in November, following a 0.6% advance in October that was more than initially reported, according to figures released Tuesday by the Commerce Department in Washington. The November increase was the slightest gain in five months. Economists projected a 0.6% November increase, according to the median forecast in a Bloomberg News survey. Purchases excluding automobiles also rose 0.2%.

  • Five new retailers to open at Westchester’s Ridge Hill

    Yonkers, N.Y. -- Forest City Ratner Cos., the developer of Westchester’s Ridge Hill, in Yonkers, N.Y., announced that four new retailers have completed leases and will be opening their stores during the spring/summer 2012. They are LA Fitness; T.J. Maxx; Pandora and Francesca’s Collection.

    Additionally, Guitar Center, which had previously executed a lease, will be opening its new store at Ridge Hill during the December holiday season. These new stores will occupy 108,939 sq. ft. at Westchester’s Ridge Hill.

  • Simon and Genting open first Premium Outlet Center in Southeast Asia

    Indianapolis -- Simon Property Group announced that, in 50/50 partnership with Genting Berhad, it has opened Johor Premium Outlets, its first Premium Outlet Center in Southeast Asia.

    The center encompasses 173,000 sq. ft. of GLA featuring 80 stores and is strategically located in Johor Bahur, Malaysia. A grand opening celebration will take place on December 11.
