  • Stuart Weitzman names president, global retail

    New York -- Stuart Weitzman Holdings announced that Alyssa Mishcon has joined as president, global retail. Mishcon will oversee all aspects of the global retail business including customer experience and relationship management, strategic operations development, merchandising and international retail growth.

    Mishcon brings more than 15 years of experience in luxury brands, working most recently as president of Thomas Pink Inc., LVMH Fashion Group and then previously VP strategy, merchandising & retail at TAG Heuer, LVHM Watch & Jewelry Division.

  • Children’s Place rejects board nominees

    Secaucus, N.J. - The Children's Place Inc. has rejected three board of directors nominees from shareholders Barington Capital Group L.P. and Macellum Advisors GP LLC. The two investment firms, which collectively own less than 2% of the company’s shares, sent a letter expressing concern about The Children’s Place financial performance and recommending new nominees in March 2015.

  • Saks’ Off 5th to open in Beverly Hills

    New York -- Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th will open its first store in Los Angeles County, in the Beverly Connection shopping center in Beverly Hills California.

    The new two-level, 27,000-sq.ft. store will be fashioned in an open, modular layout.

    “Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th’s move to Beverly Hills is an exciting venture for us,” stated Jonathan Greller, president of outlets, HBC (Saks’ parent company).
     

  • Old Navy drives Gap sales growth in March

    San Francisco – Strong same-store sales growth at Old Navy helped drive a 1% increase in net sales at Gap Inc. to $1.53 billion in March 2015, compared with net sales of $1.51 billion for the same month the previous year.

    Gap Inc.’s overall same-store sales were up 2%. The company said that the earlier timing of the Easter holiday peak shopping weeks in 2015 benefited March sales results and will likely negatively impact its April sales results.

  • L Brands, Cato shine in March

    New York -- Specialty retailer L Brands continued its winning ways in March, reporting a 9% increase in same-store sales, higher than expectations. Total sales increased 10% to $981.2 million, from $923.7 million in the year ago period.

    The Cato Corp. also turned in a winning performance, with a 12% surge in March same-store sales. For the nine weeks ended April 4, sales totaled $197.5 million, up 5% from $188.98 million a year earlier.

  • Bed, Bath & Beyond misses on Q4 profit, sales; will raise wages

    Union, N.J. – Bed, Bath & Beyond Inc. missed Wall Street expectations with its fourth quarter 2014 profit and sales results. In addition, the company indicated that it may join Walmart and other retailers in raising wages for employees.

    During the fourth quarter, Bed, Bath & Beyond reported net earnings of $321.1 million, down 4% from $333.3 million a year earlier. Higher cost of sales and selling, general and administrative (SG&A) expenses helped drive down earnings.
