  • Casey’s COO takes on additional role as president

    Ankeny, Iowa — Casey’s General Stores reported that the board of directors elected Terry W. Handley to serve as president of the Company, effective immediately.  He  will continue to serve in his present role of COO.

  • Costco beats expectations in May

    Warmer weather in May meant an uptick in store traffic for a few retailers, including Costco. But the wholesale retailer’s same-store sales for the month — which increased 6%, with a 6% rise in U.S. sales and a 4% increase in international sales — were better than analysts had expected and bolstered by higher fuel prices.

    The company reported net sales of $8.78 billion for the month, an increase of 8% from $8.13 billion during the similar four-week period last year.

  • Sam's Club launches chip-enabled credit card

    In a major boost to member benefits, Sam’s Club announced a credit card cash back program that gives members the opportunity to earn 5% cash back on fuel, 3% cash back on dining and travel and 1% cash back on all other purchases, up to $5,000 annually.

  • CBX to update design, branding of c-store Friendly Express

    New York -- Global brand agency CBX will help Friendly Express update the design and branding of its 42-store network of community-focused convenience stores in southeast Georgia.

    Under the assignment, the firm will update the chain’s logo and redesign the interiors and exteriors of its convenience stores, which range in size from 2,000 sq. ft. to 3,500 sq. ft. Friendly Express stores, which also offer gasoline, are located in several different southeast Georgia communities, including Waycross, Jesup, Folkston, Brunswick, and St. Simons Island.

    When industry experts talk about retailers connecting with today’s mobile consumer, they are generally referring to customers who always travel with smartphones and tablets. But there is another type of “mobile” consumer touchpoint retailers should be targeting, and that is the automobile.

  • Walmart To Go, Bentonville, Arkansas

    Walmart’s new convenience store test concept, Walmart To Go, is located in its hometown of Bentonville, Arkansas.  

    The approximate 2,500-sq.-ft. store is a hybrid. Part grocery store, part c-store and part quick-serve restaurant, it offers a mix of groceries, c-store staples, and refrigerated and fresh prepared foods, complete with a deli counter. Products are priced the same as they would be in a regular Walmart store.     

  • Buc-ee’s streamlines POS with NCR solution

    Jackson, Texas - Convenience store operator Buc-ee’s is using a complete software, hardware and services solution from NCR. The NCR solution is helping to streamline operations as well as increase speed and reliability at the point-of-sale.
     

  • CST Brands plans 38 new stores

    San Antonio – Convenience store operator CST Brands plans to open 38 new stores in North America during fiscal 2014. That includes 30 new stores in the U.S. and eight in Canada.

  • Report: Retail development planned for Sioux Falls, South Dakota

    Sioux Falls, S.D. – A retail center is being planned for Sioux Falls, South Dakota. According to the Argus Leader, preliminary plans for the Market at Canyon Creek Development include two 17,000-sq.-ft. retail buildings and include a drug store, three restaurants and a bank.

    Owner RMB Associates hopes to have the site developed by 2016. A Get N Go convenience store is also planned for the northeast corner of the site, which is owned by Olson Oil Co.

     

  • Costco, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

    Costco Wholesale Corp. has opened the doors to its second location in Louisiana, in the city of Baton Rouge. (The warehouse club giant made its Louisiana debut last fall, in New Orleans.) The store includes a bakery, fresh deli, food court, gas station, pharmacy and independent optometrist.
