  • C-store chain expanding

    Sheetz is opening four stores in four different states.   The family-owned convenience store chain announced four new locations: Morgantown, West Virginia; Morrisville, North Carolina; St. Clairsville, Ohio; and Bethel, Pennsylvania. All will open by July, 7.  
  • Fast-growing fast-casual chain has big plans

    Newk’s Eatery is on the move.   The fast-casual restaurant chain is expanding into Central Florida, with plans to open 10-12 corporate-owned locations in the Orlando area over the next five years. The expansion is part of the company’s long-term goal to open more than 200 locations by 2018.     Construction is underway on the first Orlando-area restaurant in the Waterford Oaks shopping center, owned by BluRock Development. It is slated to open in mid-August.     
  • Chick-fil-A and Zoe’s Kitchen to join Kroger at Springwoods Village

    Regency Centers announced the signing of nine new tenants for The Market at Springwoods Village, a Kroger-anchored center slated to open in 2017 in the outer northern beltway of Houston.   New neighbors of the 100,000 sq.-ft. Kroger Marketplace will be Chick-fil-A; Cold Stone Creamery; Lovett Dental; Nails of America; MOD Pizza; Supercuts; Tarka’s Indian Kitchen; Torchy’s Tacos; and Zoe’s Kitchen. Retail space in the first phase of The Market totals 170,000 sq. ft.  
  • New Baltimore industrial hub announces retail development

    Tradepoint Atlantic, a 3,100-acre industrial hub now taking shape in Baltimore Harbor, this week unveiled plans for a 130-acre, mixed-use retail park on the former site of the nation’s largest steelmaking facility.   FedEx has signed a lease for a 300,000 sq.-ft. distribution facility and Harley-Davidson will move its training facility to the site, which offers 3,000 ft. of frontage on I-695 and exposure to 43,000 households in the surrounding area.  
  • Simply Fresh by McCaffrey’s, Doylestown, Pennsylvania

    A new, small-format grocery concept from McCaffrey's Food Markets — Simply Fresh by McCaffrey’s — has opened in a restored 1928 industrial deco building in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, that originally housed a Ford dealership.  
  • Fast-casual chain in Florida expansion

    PizzaRev, the make-your-own pizza concept backed by Buffalo Wild Wings, will soon be on the march in South Florida.   The company has signed a franchise agreement with Surfside Coffee, one of the largest Dunkin’ Donuts franchise networks in Florida, to develop 45 restaurants across greater Miami. The group’s first location is projected to open at the Miracle Mile in Coral Gables.  
  • Study: Store design key to attracting C-store shoppers

    Store design plays a crucial role in attracting customers and driving foodservice sales in convenience stores.    That’s according to the new study, Food-Forward C-store Design, which comes as more convenience retailers are pursuing foodservice as a growth opportunity.     
  • Lower costs equal higher Q4 profits at Casey’s; store growth planned

    Casey’s General Stores Inc. reported increased net income and decreased revenue during the fourth quarter of fiscal 2016.

    The retailer also said it plans to build or acquire 77 to 116 new stores, among other goals for fiscal 2017.

    In the fourth quarter, Casey’s reported net income of $47.04 million, up 14% from $41.34 million the same period the prior year. Total revenue fell 4% to $1.58 billion, from $1.65 billion. A significant reduction in cost of goods sold offset increases in operating and other expenses, resulting in higher profits.

  • Fan Base: Retailers create higher level of engagement with in-store activity hubs

  • Specialty retailer has tasty offerings in store

    Fabulous Freddy’s, an eight-unit retail chain headquartered in Las Vegas, provides customers with a little bit of everything.   “We’re a full-service car wash, express lube operation, gas station and convenience store,” said Jeff Warwick, VP and CFO of Fabulous Freddy’s, during an interview with Chain Store Age. “We’re always exploring opportunities to lease store space to franchises or operate in-store franchises ourselves.”
