  • Fixtures Living to open at Oakbrook Center

    Chicago -- General Growth Properties said that its Oakbrook Center property in Chicago has welcomed Fixtures Living, an experiential showroom concept based in San Diego.

    The Oakbrook Center store is the company’s first outside of California. It is slated to open in spring 2014 and will be Fixtures Living's fifth overall and the second one situated within a luxury retail center – the other being Glendale (Calif.) Galleria.

  • Bloomingdale’s heads to Hawaii

    CINCINNATI — Bloomingdale’s is heading to Hawaii for the first time. It plans to open a 167,000-sq.-ft., three-level store at the Ala Moana Center in Honolulu on the Island of Oahu in fall 2015. 

    The new store will be part of a redevelopment of a portion of Ala Moana, Hawaii’s premier shopping destination, by General Growth Properties. Construction will begin in 2014. The upscale chain of department stores, owned by Macy’s, will join a Macy’s store which already operates at the shopping center.

  • RadioShack expands DIY product assortment

    Fort Worth, Texas -- RadioShack is partnering with Maker Media to offer a line of exclusive DIY electronics products such as robotics, kits and tools. The cobranded product line, which includes items such as moldable plastic and youth robotic and remote control hobby kits, will be available in the fall.

    "DIY is part of RadioShack's DNA," said Dawn Callahan, VP of merchandising, RadioShack. "We're grateful to be part of a wonderfully loyal community of makers, and we listened when they told us how we can help bring their ideas to life."

  • Uncle Julio’s to make Pennsylvania debut at Plymouth Meeting Mall

    Philadelphia -- Tex-Mex family restaurant operator Uncle Julio’s will join Plymouth Meeting Mall in late 2013, according to mall owner Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust (PREIT), based in Philadelphia.

    The 9,300-sq.-ft. location will be the first in Pennsylvania, and marks the completion of The Plaza Shops extension, which is anchored by Whole Foods and includes Massage Envy, Coldwater Creek, Loft, Chico’s, Olly Shoes, Orvis, and Jos. A. Bank.

  • Village at the Peaks, Longmont, Colo.

    A huge redevelopment in Longmont, Colo., now has big new tenant names to promote. NewMark Merrill Mountain States has just named three new anchors for the redeveloped Twin Peaks Mall: Longmont’s first Whole Foods Market; a new, state-of-the-art Regal Cinemas; and Sam’s Club. The project, which is slated to open in 2014, also unveiled its new name – Village at the Peaks.

    FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Staples is not necessarily a name synonymous with home décor and specifically wall art, but the office products company is looking to change that with the launch of its Sports & Art Photo Gallery. 

  • RadioShack woos DIYers

    FORT WORTH, Texas — RadioShack has partnered with Maker Media, the creators of Make Magazine, Makezine.com, and Maker Faire, to tap into the DIY market. Maker Media and RadioShack will collaborate on an expansive DIY product lineup, exclusively carried at RadioShack and Maker Shed, including kits, robotics and tools.

  • Kenmore celebrates centennial

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Kenmore, one of Sears Holding Company’s key proprietary brands, has turned 100. The brand made its debut on sewing machines in 1913. Since then it has expanded to refrigerators, washing machines, dryers and dish washers.
