  • Best Buy jams with Gibson in Canada

    Best Buy Canada is now offering Gibson’s guitars and basses from Gibson USA and Epiphone, both online and in select stores across Canada. This launch adds to the ever-growing selection of more than 300 musical instruments available online at bestbuy.ca.

  • Tile Shop appoints Best Buy exec as COO

    Rochester, Minn. - Tile Shop Holdings has appointed Chris Homeister to the newly created position of COO, effective immediately. In this role, Homeister will oversee supply chain, retail operations and merchandising.

    Homeister previously served as the GM and senior VP of Best Buy's Entertainment Business Group, where he led all elements of this multi-billion dollar business across retail and online channels.

  • Apple unseats Coke as world’s most valuable brand

    New York -- Apple is the most valuable brand in the world, replacing Coca-Cola, which held the top position for 13 years, according to an annual study by brand consultancy Interbrand.
     
    Apple’s brand value jumped 28% to $98.3 billion, followed by Google, with a brand value of $93.3 billion. Coca-Cola, which has held the top spot since Interbrand issued its first Best Global Brands report in 2000, fell to third place, at $79.2 billion. (The top 25 brands are ranked below.)
         

  • Shop.org: Retail-related Internet time on mobile devices increases

    According to Shop.org, more than half (55%) of all retail-related Internet time in June 2013 originated on smartphones and tablet devices combined, compared with just 45% originating from desktop devices. 

    Shop.org teamed up with comScore and the Partnering Group to generate the report, released at Shop.org's Annual Summit, which found that smartphone Internet usage in June 2013 totaled 44% of retail Internet minutes, up from 17% in June 2010. Tablet internet usage accounted for 11% of total minutes on retail sites.

  • Hhgregg opens Cincy store

    Indianapolis -- Hhgregg will open a new store in the Cincinnati area on Sept. 19. The new store, located at 5045 Glencrossing Way in the Western Hills section of Cincinnati, will replace the previous location at 5111 Glencrossing Way.

  • 99 Cents Only opens in Garden Grove, Calif.

    City of Commerce, Calif. — 99 Cents Only Stores will open a 15,635-sq.-ft. store in Garden Grove, Calif., on Sept. 19.

    As part of the grand opening, the first nine customers may buy a 40-inch Westinghouse flat-screen TV for 99 cents. The chain currently operates 326 across the southwest.
     

  • Best Buy offers smartphone trade-in

    Richfield, Minn. -- Sept. 16, is the final day of a four-day promotion Best Buy Co., Inc. is offering to customers who want credit toward purchase of an iPhone 5.

    Best Buy will give a minimum $100 trade-in credit for an iPhone 5 to any customers who brings in a working smartphone. Best Buy says that will make the iPhone 5, currently available on several major carriers for $99.99, free. Customers will still have to pay any applicable sales tax and activation fees.
