  • 100-year-old jewelry chain to close all stores

    Rethinking its earlier turnaround plans, a century-old Canadian jewelry chain has announced it will shutter all stores.    Winnipeg-based Ben Moss Jewellers, which has sold mid-to-high-priced jewelry since 1910, said it will close the 54-unit chain and has launched going-out-of-business sales that began on Saturday, July 30.     The liquidation efforts are being handled by Gordon Brothers Canada, ULC and Hilco Global (through its Canadian division, Merchant Retail Solutions).  
  • Saddle Brook Square reaches 100% occupancy

    With the addition of Jembro Stores and Cricket Wireless, Saddle Brook Square – in Saddle Brook, New Jersey – has reached full occupancy, according to brokerage firm Ripco Real Estate, which has led the leasing efforts.   The 221,892-sq.-ft. shopping center is anchored by Walmart, TJ Maxx, Modell’s, and 24 Hour Fitness. Jembro Stores, a regional discount retailer, will occupy 5,280 sq. ft. adjacent to TJ Maxx. Cricket Wireless occupies 2,100 sq. ft.

  • Bonobos location destined for Madison Avenue

    Clicks-to-bricks phenomenon Bonobos’ retail journey will soon extend to Manhattan’s Madison Avenue. The company has signed a 10-year lease for 1,725 sq. ft. on the ground floor of 488 Madison Avenue near St. Patrick’s Cathedral.   Neighbors of Bonobos at its new location include Saks Fifth Avenue, Tourneau, Burberry, and Nordstrom’s Trunk Club. The Feil Organization recently completed major renovations on the building, including a two-story glass curtain wall in the office lobby.  
  • Leasing opens for mixed-use project in Miami Design District

    Leasing has begun on HELM Miami, a mixed-use development destined for a full city block in Miami’s Design District, a neighborhood carved out in an under-developed area north of downtown near Biscayne Bay.   Newmark Grubb Knight Frank Retail will handle leasing, led by executive managing director Thomas Citron and executive VP Mitchell Friedel.  
  • Report: Retail M&A activity strong in Q2

    Deal volume in the retail and consumer sector is up, but deal value is down.   Deal volume in the second quarter in the sector reached its highest level in the past 12 months, with 282 announced deals, up 5% over the first quarter, according PwC’s Q2 2016 retail and consumer M&A report.
