  • President of Bebe stores resigns

    Brisbane, Calif. -- Women's apparel retailer Bebe stores Inc. said Emilia Fabricant, president, has resigned from the company for personal reasons.

    Her duties have been taken over by chairman and CEO Manny Mashouf and Renee Bell, the company's head of merchandising. Fabricant joined the company in August 2010.

    The company runs 246 stores under the Bebe and 2b Bebe names.
     

  • Urban Outfitters Q2 profit up 8%; tops Street

    Philadelphia -- Urban Outfitters Inc.’s profit for the second quarter rose 8% to $61.3 million from $56.7 million in the year-ago period, helped by strong sales as its namesake stores.

    Total company net sales for the quarter, ended July 31, rose by 11% over the same quarter last year to $676 million. Same-store net sales, which include the direct-to-consumer channel, increased 4% for the quarter, while comparable store net sales decreased 1%.

  • TLC style expert to host NYC & Co.'s Fashion's Night Out

    NEW YORK — Stacy London, host of TLC's "What Not To Wear," will serve has host during New York & Company's Fashion's Night Out event on Sept. 6.

    The retailer's participation in the event will include an in-store DJ at its 58th & Lexington Store, who will spin music while London and her team help style customers.

  • Nordstrom fashions a new iPad app

    SEATTLE — Fashion retailer Nordstrom has launched a new iPad app to help customers browse and shop for their next looks.

    Features of the app include:

    • The Dressing Room: This feature offers customers an interactive way to create and save multiple looks by double-tapping or dragging items to the Dressing Room canvas.

  • Casual Male net income slides; to speed rollout of DestinationXL

    Canton, Mass. -- Casual Male Retail Group said Friday that second-quarter profit dropped to $1.2 million, from $6.6 million in the year-ago period. Total sales were flat at $100.5 million, and same-store sales edged up 2%.

    However, continuing strength from the DestinationXL stores vs. the Casual Male XL locations is prompting the company to focus on growing the former.

  • Hibbett profit rises 33% in Q2; on track to open 55-60 stores in fiscal 2013

    Birmingham, Ala. -- Hibbett Sports reported Friday that net income for the quarter ended July 28 surged 32.9% to $7.9 million from $5.9 million in the comparable-year period.

    The retailer reported a net sales increase of 8% to $165.4 million compared with $153.1 million for the same period last year. Same-store sales increased 4.8%.

    The company increased its earnings guidance for fiscal 2013 and said it is on track to open 55 to 60 new stores, expand approximately 15 high performing stores and close up to 18 underperforming stores.

  • Stein Mart Q2 net income meets Street's view

    Jacksonville, Fla. -- Stein Mart reported Thursday that profit slipped to $730,000 from $1.3 million last year, but second-quarter results managed to meet Wall Street's view, as revenue climbed.
     
    Sales for the period grew 2% to $276.4 million, beating the $275.9 million that analysts expected. Same-store sales rose 1.6%.

     

  • Neiman Marcus prepares to go public

    Dallas -- A Thursday report by the Wall Street Journal said that Warburg Pincus and TPG, the private-equity owners of Neiman Marcus Group Inc., are looking for an exit.

    The firms paid $5.1 billion for Neiman Marcus seven years ago; the company is currently valued, according to analysts, at about $4 billion.
