  • NRF says Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety makes progress

    Washington, D.C. -- The NRF says the members of the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety have made tremendous progress in the past year, demonstrating their true commitment to safer working conditions in the Bangladesh ready-made garment industry. In an official statement, NRF president and CEO Matthew Shay said the group has made many achievements to improve the safety of Bangladeshi factory workers.

  • Lands’ End Kids launches digital pop-up promotion

    Dodgeville, Wis. - Lands' End Kids is running a promotion involving digital pop-up stores in partnership with The Bakery by blogging site PopSugar. Seven style influencers and popular PopSugar Select mom bloggers will curate a collection of "First-day Faves" with a new digital pop-up shop launching each week on the Lands’ End e-commerce site.

  • ICSC: Brick-and-mortar favorite back-to-school shopping venue

    New York - The back-to-school (BTS) shopping season is already in full swing, with over one-third (37%) of consumers having begun their shopping – up from the 29% who started at this time last year, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers. And roughly 90% of households indicated a selection of brick-and-mortar retail as a shopping venue for the BTS season.

  • Trademark Property Co. takes over Uptown Village at Cedar Hill

    Fort Worth, Texas -- Trademark Property Co. announced it has been engaged to manage and lease Uptown Village at Cedar Hill, a 610,000-sq.-ft. mixed-use open-air center in Cedar Hill, Texas.

    Strategically located in the midst of a dynamic retail hub less than 20 minutes south of downtown Dallas, Uptown Village includes 350,000 sq. ft. of specialty stores and restaurants and 35,000 sq. ft. of office space.

  • GE Capital provides Brookstone with $115 million in working capital

    Norwalk, Conn. -- GE Capital announced it is providing Brookstone, the product development company and specialty retailer, with a $115 million senior credit facility. The financing will be used to support the company’s recent acquisition by Sailing Innovation (Sailing) and general working capital needs.

  • RetailMeNot: Parents spend $659 annually on school supplies

    Austin, Texas – Parents spend, on average, $659 on school-related costs throughout the year per family. According to a survey from digital coupon provider RetailMeNot, 67% of parents start their back-to-school shopping by the end of July, which is down slightly from 2013 (71%).

  • Ross Stores opens 30 locations in June, July

    Dublin, Calif. - Ross Stores opened 23 Ross Dress for Less stores and seven DD’s Discounts locations across 17 states in June and July. These new locations are part of the retailer's plans to add a total of approximately 75 Ross and 20 DD’s Discounts stores during 2014.

    Ross believes that future growth opportunities include almost doubling its store count from its current 1,194 stores to 2,000 stores, and also growing DD’s Discounts from 144 stores to 500 stores.

  • Changing of the guard at Tiffany & Co.

    Tiffany’s long-standing CEO Michael J. Kowalski will retire from the company March 31, 2015. Kowalski, who has been a member of the company’s board of directors since 1995, will continue to serve as non-executive chairman.

    The board has tapped Frederic Cumenal, currently the company’s president, as Kowalski’s successor; he will step up to the CEO role April 1, 2015.

    Kowalski joined Tiffany in 1983, became CEO in 1999 and assumed the role of chairman of the board in 2003.
