  • Abercrombie & Fitch posts painful Q4; sales, earnings slip

    New Albany, Ohio – It was tough going for Abercrombie & Fitch in the fourth quarter, with declines in both income and sales. Looking ahead, the company said its priorities include increasing comparable sales trends in both its U.S. and international stores, making strategic investments in its omnichannel business, ongoing expense reductions, and selective expansion in high-growth international markets.

  • NRF: St. Patrick’s Day spending set to rise

    Washington, D.C. -- Consumers are opening up their pocketbooks for St. Patrick’s Day, according to the National Retail Federation’s St. Patrick’s Day Spending Survey.

    The survey, conducted by Prosper Insights and Analytics, finds that nearly 127 million Americans are planning to celebrate the traditional Irish holiday and will spend an average of $36.52 on green garb, festive food and more, compared to $35.78 last year.

  • Cabela’s to open new store in Ohio, in spring 2016

    Sidney, Neb. -- Cabela’s Incorporated  announced plans to open a store in Centerville, Ohio, in the greater Dayton area.

    Construction on the 70,000-sq.-ft. store is scheduled to begin in 2015, with a spring 2016 opening. It will be located in the Cornerstone at Centerville development. Oberer Development Company is the developer.

  • IT’SUGAR and Buckle to open at Colorado Mills

    Lakewood, Colo. -- Colorado Mills will add IT’SUGAR this March and Buckle during this fall to its current mix of more than 200 stores. These new retailers follow openings by Calvin Klein, Michael Kors Outlet and Villa Fresh Italian Kitchen.

    IT’SUGAR will be located in Neighborhood 4 near American Eagle Outfitters Factory Store. Buckle is also coming to Neighborhood 4.

  • Dressbarn launches omnichannel dress experience

    Despite its frumpy name, Dressbarn is turning out to be quite the digital innovator in the apparel category after launching an omnichannel offering called Dressbar.

    The Dressbar pop-up shop within Dressbarn stores and on dressbarn.com will feature digital components and dresses that have "a story." Dressbarn says it believes that every dress has a story, and the store will honor its heritage while creating a compelling destination for new dress stories to begin.

  • Bayer launches redevelopment of historic Pizitz Building

    Birmingham, Ala. -- Bayer Properties has begun construction on the $66 million redevelopment of the historic Pizitz Building, located on the corner of 2nd Avenue North and 19th Street in downtown Birmingham, Alabama.

    The building’s top six floors will be dedicated to residential space with 143 multi-family apartments. The Pizitz Building will also have a mezzanine level with modern, temporary office space, a ground level featuring a public urban market, and an attached seven-level parking garage.

  • Report: Dutch court overrules Tiffany payment to Swatch

    New York – A Dutch court has reportedly set aside a $449.5 million arbitration payment Tiffany & Co. had been ordered to make to Swiss watchmaker Swatch Group AG in December 2013. According to the New York Times, a three-member panel of judges ruled in favor of a counterclaim Tiffany filed in March 2014.

  • Fewer discounts help American Eagle beat estimates

    American Eagle Outfitters reported better-than-expected revenue for the fourth quarter, as an improved assortment and fewer discounts drove sales.

    The teen apparel retailer said it earned $61.6 million, or 32 cents a share, in the fourth quarter, up from $10.5 million, or 5 cents a share, in the year-earlier period. Revenue grew 3% to $1.07 billion. Same store sales, which includes online sales, were flat, but they beat management forecasts.
