  • The Finish Line’s Running Specialty Group acquires four-store, NYC-based JackRabbit Sports

    Denver -- The Running Specialty Group (RSG), a division of The Finish Line, has expanded its presence in the New York City area with the addition of JackRabbit Sports, consisting of four locations. Additionally, JackRabbit owner and founder, Lee Silverman, will join RSG’s leadership team in Denver as senior VP of brand strategy.

  • Thor Equities acquires first Canadian property, in Montreal

    New York -- Thor Equities has expanded its international portfolio by acquiring a retail property at 777 Saint Catherine Street in Montreal. The historical building is located on the corner of McGill College Avenue and Saint Catherine Street, in the heart of Montreal’s prime shopping corridor.

  • Ross Stores reaps rewards of solid Q4

    Dublin, Calif. – Costs and expenses did not grow at the same rate as sales during the fourth quarter of fiscal 2014 at Ross Stores Inc., resulting in significant net income growth compared to the prior year period. Ross Stores’ net earnings grew 14% to $248.53 million, from $217.95 million.

    Sales climbed 10% to $3.03 billion, from $2.74 billion. Same-store sales rose 6%.

  • Swarovski dazzles in Vegas; shoppers can ‘barter’ for goods at new store

    Las Vegas -- A giant “starburst ” a 14-ft.-diameter structure composed of 911 custom-cut Swarovski crystal spheres that put on a dazzling show at midnight, is the sparkling centerpiece of Las Vegas’ newest retail destination, Grand Bazaar Shops. The starburst, was created for — and towers above—the outdoor center’s new Swarovski store, whose exterior is composed of dozens of large, angular facets designed to make it resemble a cut crystal.

  • Kohl's Cares about school field trips

    Kohl’s is sponsoring a Milwaukee-area school grant program for the third year in a row.   The Kohl’s Cares Field Trip Grant Program gives more than $1 million in funding to schools throughout the metro-Milwaukee area.  
  • dd's Discounts to open in Oxnard, California

    Dublin, Calif. -- dd’s Discounts, a division of Ross Stores, Inc., will open a new store in Oxnard, California. The opening date is scheduled for Feb. 28.

    The new store is located in Fremont Square along North Ventura Road and Doris Avenue in North Oxnard.

    California is the retailer’s largest state with a total of 68 stores.  Including this new location, dd’s Discounts will operate 156 locations in 15 states.
     

  • Barneys gets closer to the customer

    New York - For the upscale, 33-store Barneys New York, customer experience is everything. Affluent shoppers buying high-priced merchandise have certain expectations beyond the availability of quality items, regardless of channel they choose.

    “We want every customer to have an online experience personalized to their taste profile, preference and geography, just as we would do in our flagship stores,” Matthew Woolsey, executive VP of Barneys digital, told Chain Store Age.

  • dd's Discounts to open in Waco, Texas

    Dublin, Calif. -- dd’s Discounts, a division of Ross Stores, Inc., will open a new store in Waco, Texas. The new store is slated to open Feb. 28 and is located in the Parkdale Shopping Center at North Valley Mills Drive and Bosque Boulevard, 13 miles southwest of Baylor University.  

    Texas is the retailer’s second largest state with a total of 32 stores.  Including this new location, dd’s Discounts will operate over 155 locations in 15 states.
