  • Urban Outfitters misses on profit, sales in Q1

    Philadelphia – Urban Outfitters Inc. missed Wall Street expectations for net income, sales and same-store sales during the first quarter of fiscal 2015. Net income fell 12% to $32.78 millio,n from $37.48 million the same quarter a year earlier.

    Lower margins and higher delivery and fulfillment expense helped drive down net income. Sales reached a record high of $739 million, up 8% from $686.31 million, but still fell short of Wall Street expectations. Same-store sales rose 4%.

  • Kohl's opening 'Off Aisle' concept in New Jersey

    Kohl’s is preparing to open a store in Southern New Jersey called "Off Aisle by Kohl's," a name that suggests the company may be following the lead of other retailers opening off-price formats.

    It is not readily apparent what the assortment or pricing will be at the new offering from Kohl's. Multiple attempts to reach representatives at Kohl's were unsuccessful.

  • Dover Saddlery net loss grows in Q1; will open five to seven stores

    Littleton, Mass. – Dover Saddlery Inc. experienced an increase in net loss during the first quarter of fiscal 2015, seeing it jump to $776,000 from $543,000 the same quarter a year earlier. Total revenues rose 16% to $22.8 million from $19.7 million, and same-store sales rose 3%.

    Lake Buena Vista, Fla. – Coming soon in Technicolor Walt Disney World resort will offer a slew of new shopping and dining options. Retailers including Zara, Tommy Bahama, Lilly Pulitzer, Uniqlo and Pandora are the latest to sign on as Downtown Disney continues its expansion into Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort.

  • Retail ‘Springs’ eternal at Downtown Disney

    The Walt Disney World Resort is doubling the size of its retail operation and adding some hot new tenants as part of a major expansion and rebranding of the shopping, dining and entertainment area known as Downtown Disney.

    Disney Springs is the new name Walt Disney World Resorts is going with for the expanding waterfront retail operation in the Orlando suburb of Lake Buena Vista. Fashion retailers Zara, Tommy Bahama, Lilly Pulitzer, UNIQLO and PANDORA are the latest to sign on as Downtown Disney continues its expansion into Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort.

  • Report: Candie’s uses Instagram as marketing springboard

    Valhalla, N.Y. – Footwear brand Candie’s Inc., which is exclusively sold through Kohl’s in the U.S., is reportedly focusing on Instagram as a key platform for its spring/summer marketing campaign. According to MediaPost, Candies will post images of fashion blogger Shea Marie on Instagram.

    Los Angeles – In the latest set of dueling lawsuits to hit a major retailer, American Apparel is suing its founder and ousted CEO Dov Charney for violating a standstill agreement with the company. Standstill agreements typically limit the amount of stock in a company a party can buy during a certain period of time.

  • Regal Cinemas comes to Celebration Pointe in Florida

    Gainesville, Fla. - Regal Entertainment Group (NYSE:RGC) will open a 10-screen reserved-seating luxury theater at Celebration Pointe, a 225-acre, mixed-use regional development located in Gainesville, Florida. Celebration Pointe partner Ralph Conti made the announcement.
