  • Target, JCPenney veteran joins Xcel board

    Xcel Brands Inc. has appointed a veteran marketing executive of Target to the Xcel board of directors.

    "We are thrilled to have Michael Francis join our board of directors," said Robert D'Loren, chairman and CEO of Xcel Brands Inc. "Michael brings incredible marketing, leadership, innovation, and extensive branding experience to our Board and Xcel, and we look forward to working with him in this new capacity." 

  • GameStop buys Geeknet

    Fairfax, Va. – The “unnamed strategic bidder” who outbid Hot Topic to purchase Geeknet Inc. has been revealed. GameStop Corp. will acquire all of the outstanding shares of Geeknet’s common stock for $20 per share in cash, or about $140 million.

  • Cuban ballet coming to Saks windows in NYC

    Saks Fifth Avenue will be soaring to new heights with an unprecedented promotional event at its flagship store in New York City this month.

    Sixteen dancers from the Sarasota Cuban Ballet School in Florida will be performing live in the windows of the store on Fifth Avenue on June 6 and June 7.

  • Wal-Mart to enact some raises in July

    Bentonville, Ark. – Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is reportedly raising wages for some employees in specialized departments beginning in July. According to the Associated Press, managers of more complicated departments like automotive and electronics will have their pay range increased to $13 - $24.70 per hour, from $10.30 - $20.09 per hour.

  • Fossil exec named new CMO at Vera Bradley

    Vera Bradley Inc. has hired an executive with the Fossil Group to be its new chief marketing officer.

    Vera Bradley announced that Theresa Palermo has been named CMO and will join the company on June 22. 

  • True Religion promotes interim VP to CEO

    Vernon, Calif. - True Religion Apparel Inc. has named John Ermatinger CEO, effective immediately. Current CEO David Conn is stepping down.

    Ermatinger has been serving as True Religion’s interim senior VP of global sourcing and production will build on the strategic initiatives that have been implemented since TowerBrook’s acquisition in July 2013 and will guide the company into its next phase of development.

    Fort Wayne, Ind. - Vera Bradley, Inc. announced that Theresa Palermo has been named executive VP, CMO, effective June 22.

    The struggling Justice brand and the West Coast port dispute held back Ascena Retail Group Inc. in the third quarter as the company awaits its acquisition of Ann Inc. to close later in 2015.
