  • Belk offers wedding registry app

    Charlotte, N.C. – June is the traditional wedding month, and Belk Inc. is making things easier for marriage-minded customers with a new wedding registry app. The Android and iOS app offers features including a registry checklist and tips for brides and grooms-to-be.

    In addition, a thank you note assistant automatically tracks gifts and givers. Users can also set up a registry and scan items directly from mobile devices.

  • Neiman Marcus swings to Q3 profit, but same-store sales slow

    Dallas — Neiman Marcus Group posted a profit of $19.8 million for the third quarter, compared with a year-earlier loss of $8 million. (The quarter included a $16 million charge for amortization of intangible assets, compared with a $36 million charge a year earlier.)

    Revenue for the period ended May 2 grew to $1.22 billion from $1.16 billion in the year-ago period, boosted by Neiman’s acqusition of luxury online retailer MyTheresa in fall 2014.

  • Same store sales grow 2.2% at Neiman Marcus

    <The Neiman Marcus Group says currency exchange rates put pressure on traffic in the first quarter as the company reported a smaller than expected boost in same store sales. 

    The retailer said same store sales increased 2.2% for the third quarter ended May 2 as the strong dollar had some impact on the retailer’s business.

  • RILA urges Congress to approve trade promotion authority

    Arlington, Va. — The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) is publicly urging members of the U.S. House of Representatives to approve H.R. 1314, a bill to renew Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) and extend Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) legislation. The bill is scheduled for vote June 12.

  • Shoe Carnival plans new, smaller concept store

    Shoe Carnival is planning to open smaller stores to leverage untapped markets in smaller communities, as well as the company's omnichannel capabilities.
  • RPAI acquires Woodinville Plaza in Seattle

    Oak Brook, Ill. — Retail Properties of America, Inc. (RPAI) has closed on the acquisition of Woodinville Plaza located in the Seattle Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). The property was acquired on an unencumbered basis for a gross purchase price of $35.3 million.   
  • Shoe Carnival to expand with new, smaller-store concept

    EVANSVILLE, Indiana — Shoe Carnival plans to launch a complementary, small-market store concept. The new format will be approximately 5,000 sq.ft. or half the size of a current Shoe Carnival store.  
  • Men's Wearhouse posts a handsome first quarter

    The Men's Wearhouse reported a dapper first quarter on the same day the company inked a 10-year deal with Macy's to sell tuxedoes.

    The retailer posted net income for the first quarter ended May 2 of $10.4 million or $0.21 per share, compared to $16.5 million or $0.34 per share for the year-ago quarter. Net sales for the first quarter rose 40.4% to $885.09 million from $630.47 million in the same quarter last year.
