  • Footwear innovator pursues new athletic endeavor

    BOSTON, Mass. — Former president and CEO of Vibram USA Tony Post has launched Topo Athletic, a new company and brand of athletic gear created by and for athletes that conforms to the human body.

    Based in Newton, Mass., Post has launched the new company with $5 million in series A funding from Norwest Venture Partners, a multi-stage investment firm based in Silicon Valley.

    In 2006, Post launched the Vibram FiveFingers brand in the United States, which catapulted Vibram USA and minimalist footwear into the limelight.

  • Licensor keeps Heelys rolling

    DALLAS and LOS ANGELES — Sequential Brands Group, a company that owns, markets and licenses a portfolio of consumer brands, including DVS Action Sports, will acquire Heelys, a maker of sports-inspired products targeted to the youth market.

  • Sears Holdings and Brown shoe execs join board

    The March of Dimes trustees elected Deidra Merriwether and Will Smith as the charitable group’s newest board members.

    Merriwether serves as SVP and COO of Kmart and Sears format at Sears Holdings and Smith is SVP of marketing for Brown Shoe Company. Merriwether and Smith join a group of more than 30 trustees as the organization prepares to celebrate its 75th anniversary next year. March of Dimes trustees, who serve as volunteers, represent the public in governing the organization and advancing its mission. They serve five-year terms.

  • Sporting goods chain offers underwater Christmas with Santa

    LA CANADA, Calif. — Santa Claus is coming to Sport Chalet, a sporting goods retailer, to take photos with everyone, young and old, under water.

    No experience is necessary for fans to pose with Santa, who will be at the store from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, December 15. Sport Chalet dive experts will be on hand to assist Santa fans, who must be at least 10 years old to dive. Younger children need not despair, however, as they will be able to snorkel alongside St. Nick for their photo.

  • Green sells stake in Topshop to Leonard Green for $805 million

    New York -- British billionaire Sir Philip Green, the owner of the Arcadia retail group, sold a 25% stake in his fast-fashion Topshop and Topman retail chains to Los Angeles-based Leonard Green & Partners for about $805 million. Arcadia’s other retail divisions include Miss Selfridges, Bhs, and Dorothy Parker.

  • International market to get taste of Babies’R’Us’ Scrumptious line by Heidi Klum

    WAYNE, N.J. — Babies”R”Us is getting ready to give its exclusive Truly Scrumptious line designed by Heidi Klum the international treatment.

    Following Truly Scrumptious’ successful U.S. launch in fall, the retailer decided to roll out the line of products for babies and children in more than a dozen countries outside the U.S. beginning early 2013.

  • Gymboree profit, comps dip in Q3

    San Francisco -- The Gymboree Corp. reported Wednesday that net income for the quarter ended Oct. 27 fell 22.6% to $46.9 million from $60.6 million in the year-ago period.

    Sales edged up 2.8% to $311.5 million, but same-store sales dipped 4% in the quarter.

    During fiscal 2012, the company said it maintains its plans to open approximately 124 new stores, including 98 Crazy 8 stores.

     

  • Simon acquires 100% ownership of two upscale outlet centers

    Indianapolis -- Simon Property Group said Wednesday it has acquired Paragon Outlets Grand Prairie in Grand Prairie, Texas, and Paragon Outlets Livermore Valley in Livermore, Calif.

    Simon now owns 100% of each asset.

    The 417,000-sq.-ft. Grand Prairie center is tenanted by Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th, Bloomingdale's The Outlet Store, Coach, Cole Haan, DKNY, Hugo Boss, Kate Spade New York, J.Crew, Michael Kors, Nike and Tommy Hilfiger. The center opened in August 2012 and is 100% leased.
