  • Online clothing retailer opens seventh location

    A Nordstrom-owned retailer that offers personalized styling services for men and women has made its Boston debut.   Trunk Club has opened an 18,000-sq.-ft. Clubhouse location on Boylston Street. The store carries ready-to-wear for men and women, along with men's custom clothing.  
  • Off-pricer to open 90 stores in 2017

    Ross Stores continues to maintain an aggressive store expansion strategy.   The retailer recently opened 23 Ross Dress for Less stores and five dd's Discounts stores across 15 different states in February and March. The new locations are part of the company's plans to add approximately 70 Ross stores and 20 dd's locations during 2017.  
  • Saks Off 5th continues Canadian expansion

    Saks Fifth Avenue is adding to its store fleet up north.   On Thursday, March 9, Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th will open two new locations in the greater Toronto area,      “This month marks our one year anniversary of entering the Canadian market, and we’re excited to continue our Canadian expansion with two new stores in the GTA,” said Jonathan Greller, president, Saks Off 5th and Gilt.   
  • Nasty Gal to live on

    Nasty Gal is getting a new lease on life — but only in the digital space.   The brand, which was acquired out of bankruptcy in early February by British online fashion group Boohoo.com, will live on under new leadership as a pure player. Nasty Gal recently closed its two brick-and-mortar stores, both of which were in the Los Angeles area.    
  • Women’s activewear brand to close stores

    Lucy Activewear plans to shutter its retail store operation, and merge with a sister brand.    Lucy, which is owned by VF Corp., will merge with The North Face, also owned by VF.     
  • Shreveport center sells for $8.95 million

    Dalton Street Properties has acquired East Side Plaza, a Michaels-anchored center in Shreveport, Louisiana for $8.95 million. Other tenants at the 78,761-sq.-ft. center include Guitar Center, Dollar Tree and Cato.   “The East Side Plaza sale was a significant win for both parties, allowing the seller to exit a non-focal market while providing the purchaser with a high-quality asset,” said Fred Victor, VP of Transwestern, who brokered the sale on behalf of the seller, Eastside Dunhill.
  • Specialty athletic retailer grows profit for seventh straight year

    Despite a softer sales environment, Foot Locker reported strong fourth quarter earnings — surpassing analyst estimates.   For the fourth quarter ended January 28, 2017, the specialty athletic retailer’s profits hit $189 million, or $1.42 per share, compared with net income of $158 million, or $1.14 per share in the same period of 2015. This exceeded analyst estimates of $1.31 per share.  
  • RCG acquires Flint center for $14.2 million

    RCG Ventures has purchased Oak Brook Square in Flint, Michigan, for $14.2 million. Anchored by TJ Maxx and Hobby Lobby, the 152,073-sq.-ft. center is located across the street from the Genesee Valley Mall in Flint’s largest trade zone.

  • Another department store retailer misses

    Slowing mall traffic continued to slow Dillard’s sales in the fourth quarter.   Net income for the quarter ended January 28, 2017, was $56.9 million compared to net income of $84.0 million in the year-ago period. Included in the amount is an after-tax asset impairment of $4.2 million on a cost method investment.   Net sales for the period were $1.94 billion, down from $2.07 billion last year. This missed analyst estimates of $1.999 billion.  
  • Nordstrom Rack location set for Baltimore center

    Nordstrom Rack announced it would open its first Baltimore store at The Shops at Canton Crossing in spring 2019. It will be part of the center’s 90,000-sq.-ft. Phase II addition, which is expected to begin construction in November.
